What's included, what's not

  • What's includedWhat's includedThis tour follows the path of the great migration of black people from the south to the north, and to Chicago. We go down the streets that my ancestors would’ve taken to get to the black neighborhoods of Chicago. We visit Bronzeville, where in the early and mid-1900s it was the largest, most populated black area in America. We follow the migration route to other areas and explain it. Chicago is the home of modern day gospel music. We will take you to Pilgrim Baptist Church, where modern day Gospel music was born. We discuss Thomas, Dorsey, Mahalia Jackson and others while taking you through the biggest black middle-class area in America.

Know before you book

  • Not suitable for: Children under 18 years

What you can expect

Visitors will see the bus of the father of Chicago, Jean Baptiste DuSable. This tour will pass homes of many black celebrities that lived in Chicago such as Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Muddy Waters, Jennifer Hudson and many others including the 44th President of the United States of America. We will see the Nation of Islam’s founder, Elijah Muhammad’s home as well. We don’t just visit sites, we provide insight, reasons and some analysis. The tour guide lived this tour and was a part of Operation Push, in meetings with Jessie Jackson and lived across the street from the leaders of the black Muslim movement. The stories that accompany this tour are first hand including a real life true story of Barack Obama giving his mother’s car a jump start. He was a part of the Great Migration as his family stepped off the train into Chicago. You will receive a first hand, unique prospective.
