FFS, I stayed one night and all was well, any issues I’ll take up with wherever I’m staying. I’ve unsubscribed from your reminders yet constantly get pestered. Please STOP. And there’s absolutely no need to reply and ask for feedback about your reply. Malmaison is great, Hotels,com not so much.

The smell inside the hotel was horrific. Our room smelt like sewage and we couldn’t leave the toilet door open. It’s all we could smell all night. I raised it with reception but they could only offer bleach to clean the toilet. The room was also ridiculously dark, if you’re a female needing to do make up, make sure you take an extra light or vanity mirror with a light. Everything else was fine, the hotel was clean, staff lovely and beds comfortable. It was just a shame we couldn’t sleep because of the smell and couldn’t wait to leave!

Terrible lighting in room
New Year’s Eve stay, had meal in the bar and grill, the food very mediocre, wouldn’t rush back, however the staff in the bar were very pleasant attentive and professional. Paid £25 each for the new year celebrations from 10.30, champagne cheap, and no atmosphere whatsoever, not worth more than a fiver each. The rooms are compact have all you need for a 1 night stay apart from light. Very dark room, the light on the compact mirror didn’t work, to put make up on you had to use the big mirror by the wardrobe for the wardrobe light which is on a sensor, really annoying. The bed and pillows were comfy on a positive. Really wanted to like this hotel but don’t think I’d book here again, you really need to sort the dullness of the rooms out.

Where do I start, ok, the checkin, where I’m abruptly told ‘oh, we didn’t know you were bringing a dog’ - I say ‘well you did as I added it to the booking’ - ‘oh, yes the note, well we don’t read those’ - how is that even my fault. So I’m then told I’ll have to wait to see if a different room is available. Then comes the £25 per night charge. Parking, well let’s just say that’s not a real option, did you book she asks. No, it doesn’t say I have to, oh well, she says, it’s full you’ll have to use the NCP. I explained that I tried to call reception on arrival, I was told ‘we aren’t allowed to answer the phones during checkin times’ - let’s face it, that’s probably the most important time to answer the phone for people lost or needing help! Now to the room, windows don’t open, room roasting hot, aircon is just an ornament, not an operating function. The dog passport is more finger wagging than tail wagging friendliness. Location is great, but service was just appalling.

Best place to stay in York
Room had great views of York Minster and the city, was well equipped and breakfast was excellent. All in all a recommended place to stay at a fair price. Also premium Sky TV channels included.

Best hotel in York
We love this hotel and stay every time we visit York if possible. We have tried several others and none quite meet the standard of the Malmaison. We always book the Club Deluxe rooms as they are very spacious, with separate sitting area and huge bathrooms with separate bath and shower, and little touches like Ferrero Rocher, water and Nespresso in the rooms. The location is great and the staff are always friendly, helpful and professional. Also to note, the cocktails are outstanding!

Our stay was lovely and we had a very relaxing time. Would be nice if the restaurant clearly displayed breakfast times. The rooms could also do with the option of brighter lights. There was barely any light in the dressing area especially near the mirror.
