Location of the property was fantastic. Parking needs to be booked before hand as there are limited spaces. Desperately in need of decorating. We stayed 3 nights and the room wasn’t serviced once, even when we asked for it.

Good views over the harbour but worst coffee

Nice hotel, shame about the ongoing renovations, bar was a building site and the coffee is possibly the worst I’ve ever had. Staff were nice tho and renovated room was fine for the price.

Over all the hotel was good. They currently are updating the rooms so looked like a building site in places. We stayed in one of the newly done rooms very nicely done but plug in the shower tray did not drain quick enough. I was in the shower just a little I've 5 mins and the water was runny out of the shower tray. Staff was very nice and friendly, the atmosphere was good will definitely book again x

Firstly I would like to say that the location is excellent and Whitby is magical we would love to visit Whitby again can highly recommend the Magpie for fish and chips. The hotel on the other hand did not meet our expectations although the staff were very helpful and friendly it was like staying in a building site and whilst this won't last forever and renovations are required for a building dating back to 1849 and definitely in the room we stayed in 228 please let guests know before booking or at least offer a discount it was a real disappointment when you are expecting what you see in the photos at the point of booking.

The hotel is being renovated yet it was still quiet and comfortable. The room we were allocated wasn't suitable for our mobility needs as there were too many stairs but we were quickly given an alternative one more suitable. A faulty lock was efficiently replaced without any inconvenience to us. Friendly reception staff and welcoming entrance gave an overall positive experience

Even though the property is currently being renovated it was still quiet and comfortable. Our room was spacious and warm. The bathroom facilities were very clean and well equipped. It has a welcoming foyer and friendly reception staff. We had a problem with the heating when we arrived but it was quickly rectified. Can't fault the experience

Comfortable stay & excellent value for money

Although hotel is obviously having parts refurbished there was no detrimental impact on guests. Staff were extremely helpful & friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Food in the restaurant was excellent. We felt valued as guests & thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Had a great stay at the Royal hotel, we were given a recently refurbished room, even though we had a dog with us. The room was lovely and modern with everything you might need. The hotel is currently in the process of being updated so the bar area was unavailable although a small bar has been moved into the small room at the front of the hotel. There is seating outside the front of the hotel with complimentary blankets to keep you warm. Obviously the new bar will be a great addition soon. Check in was easy, although there was a £20 per night charge for the dog!! Breakfast was lovely, during the week this was table service and at the weekends it was a buffet style. There was plenty of continental and hot food available, all cooked to our liking. The location is perfect for us, with views over the sea and the abbey. Overall we had a great stay and would return and recommend to others.

Lovely lovely staff who are doing a great job of working effectively during ongoing renovations. Dining room is beautiful since refurbishment and the food is reasonably priced and excellent quality. My room was pristine with a sea view.
