Very Good

The rooms are a little shabby, although they are refurbishing- hence no lift at present. The staff were very helpful, rooms clean and had everything we needed. Good location at the top of the steps by the whalebones, parking is a headache as on street parking is expensive from March to end October, hotel car park was full.
Despite the ongoing refurbishment the staff were professional polite and committed, looking out for the guests always with humor. All this in what can only be a difficult sistuation to work in
Refurbished rooms. A manager that wants to make it successful and staff that respect the manager as he does to them. You can see the the relationship between manager and staff are all wanting to make this New Royal refurbishment a success.

Hotel sounded great was told no lift but didn’t realise there was renovations going on wouldn’t have booked there if we knew before hand cobwebs in bedroom old looking in bathroom holes in walls dull in dining area cold food no working coffee machine for hot chocolate latte etc sad looking food lay out for continental breakfast no fresh fruit no packs of sugar for cereals very disappointed I wouldn’t recommend
Offered an upgrade when we got there which was nice , room was large and clean . There doing work around the hotel but it didn’t impact our stay at all , ate meal in hotel on the night , breakfast has a good choice of quality food

great location views out to sea, over the harbour and the Abbey - comfy bed with choice of pillows - well appointed bathroom - looked fairly new - good sized shower with lovely smelling shower gel in the dispenser -good breakfast ( asked for poached eggs - came in good time and were "perfect" ) real beer ( Timothy Taylors Landlord ) in the bar -all staff on duty through our visit were very professional efficient and polite -would recommend, will visit again -thanks
The property was being renovated whilst we were there, no one had told us this prior to booking despite a few emails to the hotel about parking and booking meals. The lift broke. Dust from builders in the dining area, builders walking around the hotel using inappropriate language. The room wasn’t cleaned properly mugs not cleaned for tea and coffee just washed up under the tap, witnessed after asking for our room to be cleaned. Dubious stains on carpets too. had to ask for toilet paper. Manager Andrew did not care however Michelle another manager was apologetic. A waste of my few days away an awful hotel.
Room ready on arrival and friendly staff on check-in. Very dated hotel which is being renovated but we had a terrible nights sleep in a very noisy room, heaters making loud noise and also dogs barking in rooms early morning.
When asked on departure if everything had been ok we did highlight these things. Not apologetic at all, it was almost as if it was said on a regular basis. Glad we didn’t do the upgrade!
Shame as I’d always wanted to stay here from being you. - highly disappointed.
