The hotel was undergoing major renovation during my stay, including the instalment of a lift. My review will be based on my experience during my stay with these renovations ongoing. This is an establishment that has seen some age, and my room was located on the 4th floor. The staff did not offer any service to carry my bag, which other similar establishments did (and to which I had refused). I had noticed many seniors on the upper floors had to carry their bags themselves with struggle, and to make the matters worse, each floor in the hotel is significantly higher than other buildings without lifts. The room I was offered is one of the most recently refurbished rooms, and it was overall satisfactory in cleanliness. One thing that I found slightly shocking was that given the recent refurbishment, the room did not have temperature control unit and instead had a portable fan and a portable heater. I had also fancied the restaurant for dinner service however after standing at the waiting area and 3 different staffs walked pass by without hint of service (or greeting) even when calling out to them, I decided elsewhere. The biggest issue for me was the fact that because of the ongoing renovation, there was a distinct smell in the halls of the hotel that did not smell pleasant or healthy and tickled my throat. I was overall looking forward to leave the premise as soon as I could.

The hotel is undergoing a renovation which is needed, however this is not communicated nor was the fact that there was no lift in the property at present either.

The hotel is completely clad in scaffolding from top to bottom. There are workmen everywhere drilling, hammering and making a mess. The entrance from the car park is disgusting, bits of wood, filthy, dusty. The carpark is reserve space only and the overflow is a gravel space full of rubble and rubbish. Our allocated room was on the 3rd floor (no lift) with 90 steps (I was told). My husband has COPD. We were found a room on the ground floor with filthy windows and curtains. To be fair the man who attended to me asked if it was OK and I said yes because it was on the ground floor. It's undergoing renervation and there's a long way to go. The staff were very nice. We booked for two nights but left after one. I believe the room rate should be halved to compensate for the disruption - which no-one apologised for. I do have a photo of the bath and window but I think my words say it all. Enough said.

Loved the character of inside the building. It is having redecoration done but didnt intrude with stay. The room was enough and had a lovely picturesque view. The room did get very warm during the night but we judt opened the window a little. Breakfast buffet was well organised and really good. The dining room setting was really nice.

Big hotel with Big breakfast

Ideally placed on the cliff top with noteworthy views across the estuary to Whitby Abbey ruins and out to see. The hotel is undergoing a significant face lift and refit but its current public rooms are very good. Outstanding breakfast options available. Well worth the £100 or so for B&B nb lift currently unavailable so be ready to climb some stairs!

I can honestly say it’s the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in it was absolutely filthy with thick dust on the room surfaces. We didn’t get any sleep at all on our first night due to the cheap mattress that inturn spoiled our time away due to the lack of sleep. After being moved to another room with a half decent mattress we managed to sleep, there was no lift in operation ? There was also building work being carried out ( no mention when booking ) so obviously dust everywhere due to the fact they weren’t using a dust exstraction unit. Dust and nails n screws on the floor directly inside the front door obviously nobody could be bothered to clean up. On speaking to the hotel manager she promised to reimburse me however that never happened and no phonecall as promised . All in all a nightmare stay in a dirty hotel with staff who tell lies- I wouldn’t stay there again if they paid me HORRIBLE.

Good value, great location

Very impressive property. Currently undergoing renovation but that didn't really impact on my stay. Great location with terrific views. I had a small double which was fine for a solo traveller but would have been cramped for two. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Our room was lovely and newly refurbished, however there was a lot of building work happening at the hotel. I was made aware before our visit that the lift was not working and there were plenty of staff on hand to help with luggage.
