Probably the largest hotel and was clean and comfortable. Did not eat or drink for dinner as wanted to go an explore the town. Breakfast was very good and staff very friendly.

The room was clean but very tired and basic. Our room also looked over the Morrisions store next door and from approx 01:30 my wife was kept awake by the delivery trucks coming and going and unloading during the night. I was only awoken once by this but i am a very sound sleeper. I found the room to be very expensive for what it was but the staff were nice and helpful.

E mailed a few days in advance of stay to double check we were ok checking in after 10pm but never received a reply. Check in was ok, a nice man called Euan I think who was covering the bar and reception. Room clean but very dated. Curtains and carpets threadbare and very old fashioned furniture.

Booked for one night as close for ferry and looked great on pictures . However on arrival very disappointed. We were placed out back in a cottage which from the outside looked good on entering same it was dated and in need of decoration Stains on walls in places Carpet worn. All plugs low to ground so had to put kettle on floor to boil it ... mattresses were hard and pillows definitely needed replaced ..... room looked nothing like pictures and we in two separate rooms with single beds no mention of this on booking Restaurant was ok poor choice of meals and limited options for everyone Breakfast was good and liked the choice between continental and cooked perhaps a few more options for continental might be good Unfortunately our stay was disappointing and we certainly would not be returning for another

A step back in time to a better age.
Nothing has really changed in the 30 or so years I have stayed at the Castle but I keep going back. It needs some tlc but it has always needed it. The classic rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. It is not boutique, it is not luxury but there is just something about this place that makes it a joy to experience and it is the dining room and food. It is a throwback to a previous era and I am so glad the new owners have not changed it. Proper waiting staff who know what they are doing and get it right. A kitchen that is the same. The food is great. A dining experience with chandeliers and pristine white table cloths and the correct cutlery and set properly. Hot plates, sometimes too hot, as they continue to fry the egg at breakfast and delicious food. Keep it up. Until the next time, next month likely. Thank you.
