The hotel was in a good location and overall a nice experience. I have to say, I was a little disappointed with the room and breakfast. Immediately, I had two matters relating to the room that needed to be addressed, and staff did take of Immediately. Bathroom was small and did not have any counter space. The breakfast was mediocre, at best. If you like bread with your coffee and toast, a cold boiled egg, and a fruit option, then it was good; otherwise not very appealing. There was yogurt, but I am not a fan of yogurt. I did have it on one day of my 3-day stay.

Do not stay in the cabins! Extremely small and no place to put anything. Pictures are deceiving. We did not look forward to coming back to our hotel each night and the stay was not relaxing. Smells like Home Depot with unsanded, unfinished, splintered, planked wood as walls. Other rooms in hotel may be better. Staff was very friendly and breakfast was outstanding. Property has potential but cabins are certainly not worth the price.

Great resort for getaway, short walk to shopping and dining in Stowe, Vermont. Recently opened, new construction (some cabins still being finished). Breakfast buffet was great! Hot Tubs and Fire Pits in the common areas, hiking trail at the edge of the property. Would be good to add some lighting on the patio for evening use.

It’s clear that they are busy renovating this property, but the fact they are still renovating and charging top dollar is a problem. This will be a great place when they’ve finished. A few things they need to work on : 1. Main bar/ reception area is tastefully decorated and the amazingly friendly staff always on hand, but when you first walk through the door you are met with a strong odour of sewage gas. 2. We were in one of lower rooms which faces the pond. In order to get to the fire pits, breakfast or hot tub you need to walk through the unmade parking lot. Not ideal when it’s wet. 3. The room itself was spacious but is extremely poorly laid out. There’s a nice gas fireplace but no seating near it. The bathroom is clearly from pre reno era, it’s small, extremely poorly lit, and water takes a good 5 minutes to get up to temperature. The bathroom fan is louder than a 1975 VW Beetle with a broken muffler! There’s nowhere to put on makeup, plus the lighting overall in the room makes that impossible. My wife gave up trying! Finally the end table were curved, slated chairs so be careful with glass of water. It’s an end table not end chair guys. The blinds were incorrectly installed leaving a 4 gap all around the sides…..I could go on but you get the gist. 4. The hot tub area is brand new but lacks character - it’s a mass of wood with very little landscaping. Fix these, easily addressed, issues and AWOL can be a great place to stay. It’s not there yet.

Wedding weekend
The room was amazing. Amy at the front desk was more than accommodating. I called in a panic that I needed a place to get dressed for a mid-day wedding. I was worried I would miss check in with the wedding going on and the front desk hours. She went above and beyond, notified housekeeping and my room was ready upon my arrival which kept me at ease.

Best place to unwind and end the evening.
The sky over Stowe was gorgeous looking over the town.

The room was clean but carpet around bed was stained. We were in a first floor room in a 2 story section so although we could not hear voices we could hear plumbing including when upstairs guest urinated! Nice to have fireplace but our room only had one chair and bed was low to ground. From pictures I had expected a sofa. Bed was moderately comfortable and linens were very nice as were bathroom linens. Bathroom was small but very clean. Room included mini fridge hairdryer etc. Office had no exterior signage so had to guess where to check in. Front desk employee was friendly. Fine for a one night stay.

Loved our stay at AWOL Stowe! Will definitely be coming back and hoping that the property is finished so we can enjoy all the amenities next time. The freshly baked breads and muffins in the morning were excellent. All staff were super nice. Can’t wait to come back.

Expected more for the price. Cramped stairs up to room. A/C not working. TV not working, had to rummage around to discover it was unplugged. Door to room jammed. Guest reception staff not that helpful, stressed that main lodge and reception desk would close at 10 pm, emergency-only service available overnight. Just a mediocre experience overall.

We had a good time. Property was clean(aside of a single "empty" on our patio) definitely not a deal breaker. I wouldn't label as a "boutique", much more of an 'upper-scale Motel'. We got the 'Alpine King Deluxe'(for reference) . Small, functional, simplistic yet... 'rustic-chic'?
