Not luxury, but ok for the price. The building is very old, but interesting. We struggled to open the window for fresh air.Helpful staff. Mucky windows from outside, but with nice views. Cobweb on the ceiling. Impressive fitness and leisure facilities with additional fee of 6£.

A beautiful hotel but in need of care.

The Royal is a beautiful ornate building situated in an excellent position for the town and beach but in need of tlc. A massive task for anyone to maintain. The bedrooms need an update and cleaning thoroughly although bedding clean and towels soft. The reception staff were so friendly and helpful a plus for the hotel. We all have to make a profit but £3.60 for a small bottle of coke in the bar seemed extortionate having paid £2.60 at The Britannia hotel Aberdeen. This drives away extra custom for the hotel.

78th Birthday Celebration

Not Happy! We paid extra for a 'Sea View' room, but could only see the sea through a side window of the bay window. The other widows overlooked car parking and buildings opposite including The Grand Hotel. It was my Husbands 78th Birthday and we were hoping to be able to relax in the room if the weather was poor enjoying the Sea view. Fortunately the weather was sunny although cold so we were able to get out and see Scarborough. The room looked tidy when we arrived, but we noted that it needed dusting and surface cleaning generally. We have not been able to get away since the Covid lock down and we were hoping to have a couple of days away on the coast. We may aswell of booked a Standard Room for the benefits we got.

Do not stay here

The hotel is not what the images show. The place is old and run down. We had to request a new room as the bathroom smelt of very strong urine our second room wasnt much better. The heating was turned on and we were unable to turn it off within the room. (Automatically turned off in the evening) don't waste your time on brealfast. Awful quality we ended up with a cup of tea and toast. Hotels.com should check that adverts are correct we booked this in a hurry on the road and so didnt get much chance to research and booked due to the images on the website. Will nnot make this same mistake again.

Sadly we’ve just come home from the break the sink and shower room were covered in thick limescale and a old tissue left at the side of the toilet and on the soap dish in the shower black mold and felt very dated I am disabled and I asked for a disabled room and we was located on the 4th floor the furthest room away the lift was broken so sadly I’m happy to be back home

First thoughts walking in was a very beautiful old building, the rooms were huge, and at first sight looked very clean, but then found a dirty yoghurt lid and bottle top under bed, toilet hadn’t been flushed, and lots of thick dusty cobwebs in the light shades, In my daughter’s room the single bed runner was extremely stained, there wasn’t a proper shower screen so when showering, the floor became wet through. There was tea bags and no sugar in my room, or teaspoons, and the tray that the kettle on still had stains from the previous guests, there was no teabags only coffee in my daughter’s room. This was rectified quickly by going down and asking at reception but I feel housekeeping maybe need to be more vigilant. The hotel is in a prime position for exploring Scarborough but let down by its cleanliness.
