February 2025

Check in was easy and the staff were very friendly. in fact all of the staff were very helpful, friendly but professional. the views were fantastic even when it was a bit cloudy, looking out to Robin Hood Bay when eating breakfast and dinner was a great treat, breakfast on the first morning was buffet style, while morning two was a cooked in kitchen, traditional UK type breakfast, cereals etc were as day one. Dinner was sublime, the choice was limited to other restaurants menus however the pie was make from scratch and the food was hot not just warm as other dining establishments that cost a lot more. The room was very spacious, light, airy and very clean with again very good vistas of the Bay, the bed was very comfy and plenty of space for clothing. however the small disappointment was the size of the bathroom, cramped compared to the room itself. the shower was powerful enough and easy to control the heat, bath was small, there was water damage to the plastic covered mdf bath panel and base, if solid plastic this would not be a problem, there was a light not working and becoming detached from the ceiling. Apparently we should have been informed on checking in that the TV signal was very poor via freeview/terrestial and we should have been using the streaming services? The hotel is going through much needed updated and convertions but never heard any of the work in our room, where the lift is there are items stored there and seems a little run down. would go back tomorrow.

We enjoyed our stay at Raven Hall immensely. The hotel in Ravenscar has an absolutely amazing position overlooking the bay, cliffs and beyond. We had a lovely warm room with sea view which was very comfortable and roomy. All staff very friendly and helpful, plus the buffet breakfast is brilliant. We have been a few times now and will definitely return.

Spring getaway

Only faults of the room are stained carpet, cracked windowsil & poor water pressure and heat in bathroom. Corridors in need of renovation and quite a few public rooms inaccessible due to work being done (it will be lovely when its done) The lodges look exciting, would love to stay in one. Evening meal and breakfast very nice

The hotel was fantastic from the outside, but the receptionist wasnt so good. We stood for over 10 min whilst he lounged in a chair on the phone. No acknowledgment we were even there. The hotel is under renovation but we weren’t told that, not a big problem but would have been nice to know. The menus for the evening was not a lot to choose from and was a tad over priced in my opinion. The room was clean and warm and the breakfast good.

Absolutely stunning location! Amazing views ! The surrounding and the property makes the dump and cold weather looks and feel beautiful! Staff is very polite and helpful. Needs a bit of updating and love, which I hope what the building work is at the moment is. We can’t wait to visit it again

Wrong Room - not a great visit

I booked a room with a bay view and a king bed - when we checked in we got a room with a (less than) partial bay view and a double bed. I paid £150 for the room and it was disappointing. The room we got was £30 lower. The food was fresh and appreciate the hospitality.

Class on the clifftops

We had a brilliant weekend. The staff were first class. The hotel upgraded our room free of charge when they heard it was our ruby wedding. The views from our room were nothing short of spectacular. Although the hotel is a little ‘tired’ in places it did not detract anything from the weekend. The hotel has character and class. It gives the impression of being remote, but it is tucked away on the top of the cliffs close to the main Whitby to Scarborough road. Food was very good and the bar had a great ambience. Highly recommend.

Really lovely stay. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The dining areas were well decorated and the food was delicious. Some of the areas are closed off but this didn't materially alter my stay as I wouldn't have been using the pool anyway. I would definitely stay again, and hope to do so. Beautiful views, and pleasant walks to surrounding towns.

Have stayed many times, wonderful situation and had superb service, this time the hotel resembled a building site, while obviously, improvements were being made, customers should have been informed of this situation. Main lounge having had the carpet removed looked dreadful, dingy ,walls plastered here and there, bedroom door paint coming off as it was touched, bath in room cracked and fastened with tape. Surely to relieve this situation, customers should have at the very least been updated into a better and bigger room, we have never stayed before and stayed in such a cramped room. As we do not eat meat, found the breakfast lacking, full english breakfast ,very generous, where was the vegetarian option? Overall all opinion, needs great improvement in all areas.

Just here for one night. The room is fine, if a little cramped. Very clean, with a hospitality tray and shampoo, soap, and shower gel in the bathroom. Have stayed here for many years but will be interested to see if/how it changes with new owners.

The location and views from the property were spectacular with good dining options. We have two complaints, one was the hot water was at best lukewarm so taking a shower in an English winter was not fun and two we booked on expedia and they didnt accept payment through expedia. We personally didnt like this.

After reading mixed reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. The room was very spacious and the view was breathtaking. The private car park was easy to access. The area was on the very far end road and felt very safe. Plenty of walks nearby. Shorter and longer. We did Raven Hall to Robin Hoods Bay and back in 3hrs. The staff was incredble. In restaurants, reception, even ladies who cleaned the rooms. Very pleasant, helpful, friendly. Check in tooks seconds, and so did check out. The breakfast was good, continental and a la carte (enough choice for everyone). We had a dinner in restaurant and also was very tasty (a lot better that I'd expected) . The hotel is being renovated therefore it needs refreshing with colours, fixing in bathroom. But overall the standard was very good. Bed was very comfy and the hotel was super quiet. We stayed in room 201 with sea view and would definitely recommend it. The hotel has it's charm being kept back in time. It will be interesting to see it post refurbishment. Undoubtedly for anyone who likes walks and reading a book, being sat in the chair with the sea view and cup of coffee Id highly recommend.

Disappointing stay at Raven hall.

Beautiful building undergoing renovation which we were unaware of. So peaceful couple of days ruined by the noise. Bathroom clean and appears new. Appears freshly decorated . But carpets and pelmets very worn at present. We had booked larger room but bed and pillows also uncomfortable. Also dogs had been allowed to stay in main hotel building. Food for evening meal was lovely, breakfast freshly cooked but poached eggs underdone. The hotel no longer has swimming pool which is shame. It has also had a name change. Focus seems to be shifting to promoting wedding venue, which it is a stunning location.

Lovely stay, beautiful grounds and views of the bay. Property is in need of work and modernisation in some areas but it doesn’t detract from what a beautiful building and location it is. From what I understand work to modernise is in progress, so don’t let this put you off staying. Staff were friendly and our room was warm and spacious with an amazing view. We’ll definitely be returning

Just returned from a 2 night stay at Raven Hall ….. really impressed by our stay. Staff and service excellent 👍 breakfast was really good with the best view towards Robin Hoods Bay. The hotel is slightly tired in some areas but looks like renovation is underway and our room was beautiful. The staff upgraded us as it was my husband’s 79th birthday. Would not hesitate in recommending and will certainly be back….many thanks to the staff !!

made to feel welcome on our return visit. We love the location, grounds, views are incredible from every angle. The restaurant was very good as usual. The decor is a little tired and there’s such a huge potential to turn the hotel into a showstopper 5*
