We stayed in a first floor, ocean-front room with a large patio in January. View was stunning. Amazing sunsets from our room. Being across the road from the beach did not cause excessive noise. We slept with the window open listening to the waves. The fireplace warmed the room. The jetted tub was delightful. We frequented the continental breakfast every morning for coffee, pastries and fruit. Staff was genuinely pleasant (young, redhead was helpful and nice!) Our room was cleaned daily and the property is spotless. We took our daughters (7,9) to the beach directly across the street to look for moonstones, play amongst the driftwood structures and investigate the tide pools. We loved shopping on Main Street (favorites were “etc, etc, etc” and “once upon a tyme” but so many other great ones). Easy 15 mins drive to Hearst Castle. Having a small fridge in the room was helpful for snacks (purchased at local market “cookie crock”.) I really loved the small footprint of this hotel (29 rooms) and the simple u-shaped parking lot with close parking. I think the owners must be exceptional. Stay here— you won’t be disappointed!

Beautiful facility

Amazing hotel. They think of everything to make your stay special. From a sand wash-off station to binoculars for whale watching they have special touches to make your stay special. The gas fireplace is an amazing touch and kept us toasty during the cooler nights.

Beware of Booking/Check In Hours

Book with caution- this is a system glitch!!! I lost power do to severe weather with a 2 day estimate for restoration. I drove to a neighbor city and made a same day booking. This hotel says it cuts off booking/check in at 8pm. Hotels.com accepted this booking at 9pm, but for check in the next day. Looking at the confirmation I immediately called Hotel.com. They claimed that the time difference in their system allowed the booking and pushed the date forward. They put me on hold and called the hotel with no answer. I drove by, they were closed, then called the hotel first thing in am. They said they got the booking that morning. The fault was with hotel.com not them. They were booked and the system should not have accepted a reservation. That I should have booked directly, not with a shady third party. If I canceled they would charge me. They posted 2 holds on my card for a 2 night stay and won't remove it, now 4 days later. The credit card company can't reverse it unless they release it and Hotel.com says the motel won't cooperate. I drove 30 more minutes south and stayed in a Hilton where I was welcomed that night. Why would I move and stay somewhere that threatens punitive action. If they offered to adjust the dates I would have checked in for 1 night. They offer no service to their neighbors. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere where service is a priority.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Moonstone Landing. Staff was friendly and helpful. Really liked the walking area near the water and the hotel was ideally located for beachfront viewing. Very clean, quiet, and easy to park. Enjoyed the shuttle to the Christmas Market. Would love to come again next year!!
