Hotel el Covento is very well located, close to all sorts of dining and shopping locales and next to the Cathedral. It's colonial architecture gives it a very special charm and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant food and waitresses are really good. The only mishap was the faulty elevator but overall I would definitely recommend it.

The hotel is historic and beautiful. The room was nice and spacious. The staff was mostly very friendly, but the restaurant and bar had trouble keeping up with even moderate traffic. They were training a lot of new folks and it showed. The food was decent. Location is excellent and would stay there again with plenty of dining options outside the hotel.

We picked this hotel because it’s a historical building, it was a convent, and it has a great deal of character. Centrally located in Old San Juan, we were able to walk every where around Old San Juan. The staff were friendly (for the most part), especially in the bar/restaurant. We stayed from 12-27/1-2-25. This hotel is advertised as a 4 and a half stars, I would STRONGLY disagree with this rating. We took a trip to Singapore in September 2024, stayed at a 5 stars hotel, and El Convento fails by comparison. From our experience, we would give this hotel no more than 3 and half stars. It is not staffed adequately, therefore rooms are not cleaned properly, the restaurant area is not maintained clean properly, the bathroom shower door came apart when pulling it to close it, the faucet, toilet paper holder, and parts were falling apart . The air conditioning did not work properly, no matter how many times we had someone come and re-set it. One day we woke up to no water at all, and other days the shower never got hotter than lukewarm. Also, because they are short staffed, meals ordered at the restaurant took at least 30 minutes before getting to our table. I could go on but I believe that this is enough to support my rating for right now. My husband did bring our concerns to the manager, and he did make a note of it. We did take photos to support these concerns.

We stayed at the El Convento during Christmas and it was GREAT! The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the property is fantastic! The history of the hotel and the way it has been resotred really made the stay enjoyable. They have a very nice resturant, Coffee every morning on the terrace, wine and cheese in the afternoon! The location makes it easy to get to everywhere in Old San Juan. The Forts, restaurants, shops...all easily walkable and the people of Puerto Rico were so friendly!!! I can't say enough abuut how great it was to be there at Christmas! We cnat wait to go back! I would definitely stay at the El Convento again!

El Convento is charming and very convenient if you want to be in Old San Juan. The staff, while very friendly, are not as professional as would be expected for this property, and several areas were not well maintained. Housekeeping was also somewhat perfunctory. A lovely hotel that can use some extra care.

What a gem! Gorgeous, historic, and elegant hotel. The history is fascinating. The staff is so lovely! Especially Andrea in the restaurant. She was so helpful and fun! The terrace with the pool, hot tub and views…. Fantastic! The location is absolutely perfect. Strolling day or night was fun and relaxing. I would highly recommend and we will definitely be staying here again!!!

Interesting very old building. Located in the heart of Old San Juan. We have stayed here 4 times. Clean facility, comfortable beds. Rooms are small, but, you’re not here to spend time in your room.

Gorgeous Property

Gorgeous hotel, would love to stay there again! The room was very comfortable and well appointed. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was delicious! A nice touch was the bottle of wine welcoming us to Puerto Rico. They also had a wine and cheese happy hour.
