The hotel was nice and clean, the pool well let’s just call it an overgrown spa. Clean and crisp sheets and pillows, bed was comfy and the bathroom/shower was awesome! Good water pressure! Staff was nice!! However the hotel was noisy, you can hear the doors open and close and every chair moved, maybe due to that our door met the door to the elevator. IDK all in all, definitely stay again! P.S. people who were not happy for not having a window, I believe that’s an option.

New vibes in Old San Juan

Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Property was clean; bed was very comfortable. Good climate control. Nice shower products. Excellent location with great rooftop views. Rooftop restaurant and small pool were great for a cool-down. I was nervous when I read other reviews about noise making them a bad neighbor, but I stayed on a Wednesday and the slight ambient sound from (presumably) the rooftop restaurant concluded by 11pm.

You pay top money for the area. No need to uber anywhere if that’s important to you. Service was top notch; restaurant in rooftop was worth it. Two issues: we were on the 6th floor with a baby (hence a stroller) and both elevators were out for about 12 hours. Also we got a “ suite” room to be able to have an outside view but the only window had a view of…. The hallway. Keep that in mind.

Greta location

Here for a long weekend. Location is perfect. The staff were great. The rooms are clean (my room was a little on the small side). Good aircon. Nice view form rooftop. My shower never ran hot, lukewarm at best, but as it was so hot outside it was OK

We loved Alma and will stay here every time we come to Viejo San Juan. The hotel is very clean and bright. The room is stocked with a lot of amenities, some for purchase. The rooftop bar and pool are stunning with amazing views.

The ALMA had many beautiful qualities - everything is newly appointed and the location was excellent. but I didn't feel it lived up to its cost. Many of the rooms (including the one we were assigned) don't have windows - just glass portals that look out onto the hallways. The pool is more of a plunge tub vs. something that you can swim in or that multiple people could use at the same time. Also were disappointed that we didn't once receive housekeeping service during our stay.

Mixed feelings

Nice hotel, great location at the entrance of Old San Juan. Clean and pretty. Staff is not the friendliest. They don't have a concierge but when asked to help with information about tours throughout the island, not very helpful at all. The reply was too look on the internet. Walls are thin so one can hear a lot of noises. Cocktails on the rooftop are underwhelming and they have weird rules about clothing or lack thereof in the pool area.

The two nights we were there the main dining/bar area was closed which limited our choice to the roof top area which was only open late afternoons. I did like the location as it made getting around Old San Juan very easy.

Alma is a visually stunning hotel, with beautiful design and excellent dining at Andaluz and Mar y Rosa. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are all top-tier. However, for the price, the overall experience fell short. My mom and I stayed for 8 nights, and despite the beauty of the space, the execution was lacking. Our room was never serviced earlier than 3:30pm, sometimes not at all. This appeared to be a widespread issue due to understaffing, not the fault of the hardworking housekeeping team. Noise was another major issue. There’s no soundproofing, so expect to be woken by other guests well into the night. The hotel advertises as family-friendly, but this is categorically false. You will absolutely overhear intoxicated guests returning to the hotel (we overheard multiple drunken arguments well past 3am). You can also hear any and all activity in the rooms next to yours. There’s no visible security presence. The keycard systems in place (in the elevators and main entrance) weren’t being used. Anyone could enter the building and access guest floors. Additionally, rooms lack deadbolts, which felt unsafe. We also noticed signs from nearby residents criticizing the hotel for noise and disruptive guests. While managing guest behavior is tricky, the lack of control impacts both locals and other visitors. In short, while Alma is beautiful and has great food, but it didn’t deliver the comfort, peace, or service expected at its price point. I can’t confidently recommend it.

I stayed at Alma Hotel this past weekend with my 13-year-old daughter. We checked in Thursday at 4PM and left Sunday at 4AM. The room had no windows. It felt dark, claustrophobic, and stuffy, with no way to get fresh air. The layout was awkward, without enough closet space for two people, no chair, and only one side of the bed had a nightstand, light, or outlets. They also put us in one of those “combined” rooms with a double door to the next unit. We could hear every move and every word from the people next door—it felt like we were sharing a room with strangers. During the three days and three nights we stayed there, no one ever came to clean. By Saturday we were running out of toiletries. I asked and was told rooms were cleaned daily and someone would come right away. That never happened - the bathroom was never cleaned, the bed never made and the sheets never changed, and even the garbage was never emptied (I did that myself, especially since remember the room had no windows.) Some staff were polite, but there was a general lack of warmth or attention. Also Hotels.com listed a bottle of wine as a perk. That never showed up either. For a roughly $370 per night price tag, I expected much better. I found the whole place pretentious and overpriced. Basic services weren’t delivered, and frankly, we should have been offered some kind of adjustment. Without even a gesture from the hotel to acknowledge that, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
No table, no lighting fixture, no outlets on one side of the bed.
Double door leading to next room (where strangers were staying)
No windows (except for those tiny openings up there), no air circulation.
