Lovely boutique hotel in great location

With the varied previous reviews I was unsure how I would like the hotel, but I had nothing to worry about. It was modern, clean, with a great location and friendly staff. My room and bathroom weren't huge but were perfectly fine and modern. I had a room overlooking Powell street that was a bit noisy, but it didn't disrupt my sleep and I loved that the trolly stop was at the corner and union square was at the end of the street, not to mention the BART stop to the airport was just 2 blocks away. It was a lovely boutique hotel and I would definitely stay again.

Good but no luggage check

Overall this was a good experience, with just a couple of frustrations: I arrived early, before rooms were ready, and expected to store my luggage there while went to meetings. They told me they don't do luggage storage. What hotel doesn't do luggage storage for their guests?! Same problem on checkout. So I basically spent two days dragging my luggage around Union Square. The staff was also kind of unfriendly and mostly unhelpful. The rooms and common area, however, we recently remodeled in a pretty stylish way and the room was spacious and comfortable, albeit very basic. I would stay here again -- if I didn't need to check luggage.

Good location, safe and clean. It’s a two star….just be aware of that. Bare bones room but the price was right during JPMorgan when the Marriott courtyard is $1800 a night. Generally I would stay in a higher level hotel so just be aware.

Pros- good location to city, walkable to many shops, restaurants, cafes & bars. They also allowed an early check in after an early morning flight in to the city which was greatly appreciated. Cons- although the room was mostly very clean the room was very small & we found a stain on the mattress. There wasn't any housekeeping service for the 3 nights we stayed here. The room was warm & stuffy, we had to have the fan on high with the window to the alley completely open in order to sleep at all. The window to the room also didn't lock, being on a higher level we were ok but a concern, there also wasn't a screen on the window. No refrigerator is fine with a small room but ice would have helped. We also only had one small trash can. For the location & convenience of a place to sleep and explore the city this would be fine, however, we likely would not choose to stay here again. A good option for a budget hotel overall.
