The room was comfortable and clean. Good value for the price with an expensive feel. We’ll go back. Centrally located so we were able to walk to many places.
The area Horton Grand is in, Gaslamp, is great. But the room didn't meet my expectations. Owing to its age, it was super noisy. I could hear my neighbors coughing, laughing and talking at normal volume. They sounded like they were in my room with me. Same with footsteps on the floor above--woke me up all night. My room was dark, dingy and charmless. The fireplace was broken. My bathroom looked old--and not in a charming, historic way. The shower curtain was yellowed, paint was chipping on the wall, and fixtures were rusty. Value for the money was great; it was very affordable to stay here, but it was nothing special and the photos on Expedia didn't at all reflect the actual experience of staying in the room.

Liked: Staff & service
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Hotel is in a great location but needs renovation urgently.
Very warm and welcoming history-laden hotel with many unique offerings. The condition of my room and the common areas was excellent, both from a cleanliness and appointments perspective. Some of the carpets and woodwork in the hallways and elevator are in need of a little TLC, but it's understandable in a post-COVID world with an independent hotel that's probably faced a number of financial challenges. The staff was friendly and check-in was fast and pleasant.
Great location. Close to Gas Lamp but not too close. Very quiet for an urban hotel close to a nightlife area. Staff were great and attentive. Good value.
Great Gas Light/down town location. We had a great stay with a large party for my daughter’s 40th birthday.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Disliked: Room comfort
Historical, but not comfortable
No extra blankets in the room, overly fluffy pillows, no electrical outlets on one side of the bed, and the tv remote didn’t work properly. We ended up leaving about 1130pm to drive home, we just couldn’t get comfortable in the room. It had a very spooky vibe. The front desk gal was nice enough to refund our resort fee. I’m not sure why a resort fee is relevant here, it didn’t have any traditional resort amenities.
The staff was very helpful and friendly! The lobby area, entrance and courtyard was beautiful. The elevator passed by window sills covered in heavy dust and cobwebs. The hallways were cute. The room had a fireplace and balcony which was great. The high ceilings were great. The room was clean. However the room was small, the carpet was old and overall the odor was old. The bathroom was also tiny with no room to place anything on the counter. I was looking forward to an older boutique hotel, but unfortunately the older carpet/odor, dust and cobwebs would keep me from staying again in the future.
The room was lovely and clean, and the hotel was located in a convenient location in the Gaslamp area. Had I known there was going to be a wedding that weekend, I wouldn't have booked because we didn't have access to the bar (which was a selling point-we had planned to spend part of the evening in the cool Victorian bar with our VIP drinks) The hotel did compensate us by not charging the "daily fee." (honestly, I'd rather have the drinks) I was hoping for coffee in the lobby or in the bar in the morning because I am not a fan of the drip coffee / fake creamer provided in our room. I do think $59 is steep for parking so we ended up parking two blocks down. The valets were polite and offered us this option. Overall, this is a beautiful Victorian hotel and since we were only there for one night, the minor inconveniences weren't a big deal.
