This newly remodeled and updated hotel is absolutely beautiful, one-of-a-kind, and very charming. Love the old Hollywood glam decor. The interior room decorations, bar, 4-poster bed and more are very unique. Moreover, the restaurants in the hotel, including both Quixote, Beginner's Diner, and 3 different bars were very chic and cool. Absolutely a must-visit, even if you are a native San Diego resident.

The hotel is a beautifully designed historic property; however, be advised that is an active night club (in the lobby and bars), and Friday and Saturday nights are loud and very crowded (full of 20-something’s with a line out the front door). I also found the service to be slow and inattentive. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, I would not stay here.

The service is really bad. It is impossible to get the attention of staff if you need something, like shampoo refilled in your room or a copy of your folio. For the price, the service should be better.

We really love the Lafayette. Just be aware that rooms that face the street can be noisy as people go in & out late at night. Rooms don't have convenient electrical outlets near the bed, so charging devices can be a challenge. But the hotel has such a great vibe, it's worth the inconveniences!

Not For Families!

No doubt this is a unique hotel!! However, NOT FOR FAMILIES!! Friday and Saturdays it becomes a night club with confused partygoers. If you are a stone liberal, not picky about sleeping with the same or opposite sex you identify with…. This is your place! Expect to wait AT LEAST 45 minutes for a drink or any food service. Avoid lower pool rooms unless you want to share your patio area with strangers being inappropriate!! Comfy beds complete with EAR PLUGS!

This hotel has always been a favorite of mine because it provides everything I need on-site, allowing me to enjoy my stay without having to leave the property. Unfortunately, the services can be inconsistent. Upon my arrival, everything always went smoothly, and the staff was accommodating and kind. However, during my last stay, an employee approached my party and I, creating an unnecessary situation. Also, I had to wait an hour to have my vehicle brought to me during checkout, and I found the $35 valet charge to be steep, especially since parking in the area is difficult. To make matters worse, there was no apology from the valet, and I was disappointed by the long wait. When I informed the front desk about my experience, the response was, "My apologies! We did not intend for your experience to be like this." While this was appropriate, it should have been followed up with a solution and a genuine attempt to understand the inconvenience and embarrassment caused, especially with my guests present. I love the property, but I am discouraged and disappointed by the disregard for customer service. Because of this experience, I am hesitant to recommend this hotel to my friends or book rooms here in the future.
