Small room but very clean. Walking distance from zoo, balboa park, bay, midway, seaport village. Lots of restaurants. Feels safe. Entertainment right outside hotel. Farmers market on Wednesday and Saturdays. Lots to see. Only downfall, no coffee maker or microwave in room. It does have a mini fridge.

Great boutique hotel at the center of the Little Italy. Value for money was great. Staff awesome. Super walkable. Uber was readily available. Loved our stay. Rooms were cozy and just enough for two of us. If you need larger room please make sure you pick the right size room.

The hotel is older. The lobby and entrance are updated and look very nice. The staff were accommodating and kind. The location is a 10; you can walk everywhere and there are restaurants all around. The biggest downside was the room. The room is extremely small. No closet, bathroom sink is outside the bathroom, and no room for suitcases. The AC unit also does not work properly, so most of the time we needed the windows open. The only positive about the room was the bed, it was rather comfortable. Overall, I think I would stay there again if I needed. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but you can’t beat the location.

Super convenient location. Tidy rooms, small but comfortable and well appointed. Perfect since we were out enjoying activities all day. Surrounded by tons of great restaurants, easy to access transit.

Wonderful hotel

The entire staff was very friendly, accommodating, and went out of their way to provide wonderful service! The location is great and easily walkable to many wonderful places. I highly recommend La Pensione and will definitely stay here on any return trips to San Diego.

Pension a Good Fit for Basic Needs

Stayed for two nights, simple in and out. The smallish room was remarkably clean and modern. Bathroom with shower was great; good water pressure. Parking could be had overnight on the same block or around the corner (if available) in the evening.

$35 a night for parking , was not something I had planned on- but that said, the parking garage was safe and easily accessible. The rooms are pretty small, unless you get the room with 2 queens, which is a good size, but 50 more per night. The area has tons of dining and nightlife options, all walkable from the hotel. The place is in pretty good shape, a little run down, but not bad. Staff are all excellent and accommodating. They have a farmer's market twice a week right in from of the entrance, but access to parking garage not affected. Overall we liked it and would stay there again.

The rooms are small but the rate we paid was worth it. It is centrally located in Little Italy, which is what we were wanting and walkable to major sights.
