Very Good

I found long hair on the sink and on the toilet. Sheets had a tear. When booking there was no mention that the actual stay would be in the Briggs House. I kept thinking it was in the original Vizcaya itself as there were no instructions sent of where to present myself. Also, any guests should be aware the residence is not a short walkable distance from the city center.
Nice one night stay at the main Vizcaya building. The first floor is the breakfast hall and wedding conference room. The second floor has 4 standard guest rooms plus penthouse. The room is little rundown but clean and functional, which is expected from a hundred years old mansion. The location is close to the midtown and easy to access shopping, muesums, restaurants and other entertainments right in downtown Sacramento. We were able to self-tour the wedding venues inside Vizcaya. Staff is very friendly and breakfast is nice. Parking is limited but you can park on the street as well.
Beautiful building exterior and gardens. I loved the interior as well with what appeared to be many original features.
The check in process was weird or rather unconventional to me. I arrived at the property after 5pm so the sun had set. I needed to ring the doorbell to gain entry. Staff immediately opened the door to greet me. The unconventional part was that I was told to wait in the foyer while staff took my ID and credit card to an out of site area. I’ve stayed in many hotels and this was the first time I had been separated from my identification. I didn’t dwell too much on this detail after being given my key.
Staff walked me to my private studio apartment. It was quaint with most of the amenities I believed I needed for a one night business stay.
My primary issue was the bed. It looked lumpy and looked as if the person who made it had been in a hurry. My gut told me to peel the covers back. I found sheets that looked like they had been slept on, someone’s makeup on the comforter near where a person’s neck would have been, and a long hair strand. I called the front desk to request a bedding change while I went to dinner. When I returned the bed appeared to have been remade with presumably fresh sheets and the familiar lumpy appearance. However, I could not be comfortable and ultimately slept on top of bed w/out sheets. I give this place one star simply because guests always use beds in hotels so the utmost care and cleanliness should be given to the bed.
Loved my stay here. It was a comfortable walking distance to a lot of great restaurants in midtown. The staff here were incredibly kind and helpful. I would stay here a thousand times again

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service
The outside is great for parties and weddings which seems to be their top priority. The room was dilapidated, ceiling was stained and falling apart. Internet did not work.
Most TV stations did not work. Breakfast is basically cereal, nothing hot except toast. Parking is free but on the street in Sacramento, not protected.
Really great value for the money. We stayed there twice on either end of a Northern Cal vacation. The rooms are very nice, with HUGE bathrooms. The only pitfall is that the property is very old and needs some exterior upkeep. We did see someone working there doing repairs both times. Overall, I strongly recommend them.
