We loved the historical aspect of the hotel and the staff was friendly but the room itself was dirty, had damage, and outside felt unsafe due to homeless and drunks. All situations were handled by local police but for the amount of money you pay, we felt that more could have been done for safety as well as upkeep with the room.

Wonderful historic hotel with updated rooms. Traveled for business. Staff at check in were wonderful and thorough in describing the amenities of the hotel, where to find things, how to connect if I needed anything, etc. Tons of eateries and shops around the hotel as well!

Not enough words to express how disappointed and let down about all the reviews that were given about The Alex Johnson Hotel. The lack of professionalism was not confined to just front desk staff, hotel servers or security. Very overpriced, extremely overrated!

Wonderful Historic Hotel
This was our second stay at this property in 7 days. This room was not quite as clean and the hallway needed to be vacuumed. The shower in this renovated bathroom is fabulous! The beds and pillows are very comfortable! The common areas are lovely in this historic hotel. Every single staff person-the front desk staff, the valet/doormen-were exceptional. I highly recommend this hotel!

very convenient to shops and restaurants. Loved having Starbucks attached. Their little shop saved me from having a wardrobe malfunction. Room had a nice view, staff was friendly. The only issue I had was the water pressure. At one point, the shower water completely turned off. It came back on so I could finish my shower. My husband did not experience any water issues except the sink hot water. I would stay here again.

Bathroom was so small that only one person fit in there…if that. It also felt as if your knees were hitting the sink. The water in the shower didn’t work. Bed was hard as a rock. Definitely completely different to the room we stayed here a few weeks ago. Either pay the $$ for junior suite or avoid.

Nice, but valet parking was difficult
The hotel was nice and the Irish pub downstairs was lovely. The room was small but clean. My only real complaint was the parking. There was no parking nearby so valet parking was required. The only other time that valet was my only choice was in Chicago which I expected. There wasn’t even anywhere to stop for the valet and my husband had to drive around until a spot opened up for him to park for the valet. Also the valet took a long time. They didn’t have enough people working. If the service had been good I would have accepted it but we called ahead and still need to wait 20 minutes after we got downstairs to get our car.

We had some issues with valet parking but the hotel took care of it swiftly. They really need to either deep clean or replace the carpets in the rooms. Otherwise, it was great and we plan to stay there again next time.
