I recently had a horrible and dangerous experience at Sonesta Select Raleigh Durham Airport, and I feel obligated to warn others. On March 30, 2025, at around 8:50 AM, while putting my clothes away, the room’s sprinkler system suddenly exploded directly in my face, drenching me in black, corroded water. The force of the water stained my face and hair, filled my mouth and nose, and flooded the room so badly that the front door was blocked. I had to wipe my face with bed sheets just to see. My wife called the front desk for help, but we were left trapped for over 10 minutes until staff finally opened an adjoining room to help us escape. What’s worse, after the incident, no one from the hotel staff or management checked on us or even asked if we were okay. Instead of offering medical assistance or a sincere apology, they simply handed us keys to another room as if moving us would fix the fact that we had been soaked in contaminated water filled with corrosion, rust, and debris. After the exposure, I suffered from:     •    Severe nausea and vomiting     •    Burning and tingling in my mouth, nose, and throat     •    Diarrhea     •    Persistent smell and taste of corrosion Many of my personal belongings were ruined, including toiletries, shoes, clothing, and possibly my phone. I had to visit urgent care out of my insurance network, adding unexpected medical expenses to this nightmare. The complete lack of concern from hotel management was unacceptable.
