Great place. Food was very good and taste good. Staff was very friendly. I would recommend this resort to anyone. Easy access to the beach. Once again staff was outstanding very helpful and friendly. In my opinion, one of the best hotels in the Puerto Plata area. It is well maintained and cared for, kept clean, beautiful and well designed, lots of comfortable areas to hang out, the rooms have good sound proofing, love the balconies, rooms have enough space for clothes, hangers included. Lots of hot water for showers, rooms have a small fridge and a safe. Nice newer tv's with a variety of channels, a few English. The main pools area is spacious and beautiful, and there is a quieter pool in the adjacent building. The inclusive menu is varied with a good variety of meat, fish, veg, local fruits, a pasta and pizza station, and lots of tasty desserts. The beach area is nice, with a few snorkel spots with some beautiful fish. The property is right next to a professionally designed golf course, a plaza with some nice stores, and an interesting bar where one can watch hockey games in the evening. I love the staff at GV. They are all very, friendly and helpful. Muchas gracias!

I did not find anything unique about the resort. The small bars were very good, however, there was a need for more chairs at bar side. Many of the food cuts were tough to chew. The breakfast servings were good.

The staff was not accommodating at all. Paid for 3 people in the room only provided 2 towels. Had to call front desk multiple times before they finally came to provide towels and water. The “mini bar” is a joke. They do not have an iron in the room. You have to ask for an iron then they make you walk to the front desk to get it yourself. They expect you to bring it right back. I have never stayed at an all inclusive resort that made me walk back and forth with an iron. Then they made me tell them how long I was using it for and they provided broken irons. The food was not good. You have to make reservations but you can’t do it till your second day there. And then you can’t a reservation for that day. So that means out of 4 nights I was there I had to eat at the buffet all meals for 2 whole days. The room only had one outlet in the room and one in the bathroom. You can not charge multiple phones at the same time. We had to have our phones in the bathroom at night. That is very inconvenient. Small resort and for older people. Our experience was terrible and will never stay there again.

The staff does so much to make sure the stay is great. We have gone to Gran Ventana for 16 years and love it. We had no water due to a pump issue in town and the staff was lugging buckets to help flush toilets and make it so it was barely noticeable. The staff works so hard! no water was not in their control, but they did great to accommodate the situation. Beaches are great. The food is amazing! There is enough shade or sun depending on your preference. Rooms are clean and stocked daily. A great worry free vacation!

Worst Stay in Dominican Republic

I have to say it was one of the most disappointing experiences I've ever had. From start to finish, the entire stay was a disaster. Firstly, the check-in process was an absolute nightmare. The staff seemed disorganized and uninterested in helping. We waited over 25 minutes to check in, to have 1 person actually helping ANYONE with a question including checking-in, in was mind boggling. Being that I had so much time to wait around gave me the time to notice that the fixtures and ornaments in the lobby was covered in dust or dirt, the wood railings had some type of water rot happening and anything metal was also oxidizing. We finally got to our room; it was nothing like the photos listed. The rooms were very dated, the "TV" was a computer monitor, the furniture was antiquated and extremely dull. The "ocean front view" was a backyard look towards where the employees congregated and generators. The best part was the locks not working to the door. It was clear that updating anything was not a priority here. For the $ per room a total let down. Food was another major letdown. The quality of the food was below average. Food was either tasteless or EXTREMELY salty, and it was clear that the staff was overwhelmed. The checkout was just as checking-in in but more adventurous after waiting to be seen, a staff member who forgot to take a course in customer service, argued over a mistake she made only to have her supervisor escort to the back and him personally apologizing.
