The things we liked about this hotel are the location and the breakfast was very good. Otherwise it wasn't horrible by any means but we would not return. The hotel is very outdated which would be ok and quaint - except there is carpet in the rooms and hallways and for whatever reason there were air fresheners so strong in the rooms and hallways that it nearly was not tolerable. I'm not sure why or if there is another problem they are covering up.... But that was really a deal breaker for us. We went ahead and stayed the 2 nights but we were glad to leave to be honest. The lobby area and breakfast areas are very nice and if they could just copy that format for the rooms it would be a really nice place - but the air fresheners were just so strong it kind of ruined it for us.

The hotel was old and dated and in generally poor condition. My back door going to the outside would NOT CLOSE. we slept with a chair propped under the door because we didn’t discover it until we were ready for bed. When we reported it upon checkout, we found out they KNEW the door was damaged but put us in there anyway!! The breakfast was very sad. We feel very misled by descriptions and reviews.

This was a cozy, comfy retreat! I especially enjoyed the wooded setting, the fire pit and swings... Very friendly, helpful staff. I'll be back, and will stay longer next time.

The Magical Lodge
The hotel’s appearance on April’s was a welcoming beacon in a forest. We liked the chalet style appearance and ample parking lot, woodsy surroundings. The interior was welcoming and warm with an enormous fireplace. It felt like a lodge. There’s even a pool, a karaoke bar, and a Pizzeria Uno! Our room was enormous and very comfortable. The balcony was next to a forest. It was magical. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Cute hotel near Indiana dunes
My two children and I stayed here while we were visiting Indiana Dunes. The hotel is old, yet really sweet and adorable. Our room was very clean and the staff were friendly. The pool is pretty small and old, but my children loved playing in it. The hallways and cool furniture and decorations made me feel like I was going back in time. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Upon arrival inspection, I found an insect per the photo in the bedding which I showed to front Desk, who advised “This is The woods bugs happen.” Well, kinda. I didn’t consider Chesterton Indiana to be exactly the middle of the wilderness. I concurred with front Desk that it was not a bedbug, though I didn’t know what kind of insect it was. It was not A butterfly And I didn’t want to sleep In that bed. They changed my room, though They could’ve been nicer about it. Indoor and outdoor public areas where attractive and well-maintained. The breakfast room was cute and the TV room at the end of each of the hallways was quite lovely per the second photo, though I never could get the TV to operate. My room, however, was very worn out: The furniture, dinged and dented, and some wallpaper peeling. But everything worked and I appreciated the large refrigerator. Front desk Never advised us that the hotel offered No daily maid service. One roll of toilet paper and four towels was not going to last two people for four days and Supplies could be indeed difficult to obtain from housekeeping. My room had an envelope requesting tips for housekeeping which I declined to do in view of all the challenges.

Historic Inn nestled in the woods. We had a great view of a wooded area with a spring creek facing East. I loved the view! I will probably be back. The price was reasonable.

Our stay was nice relaxing and quiet! Nice surprise that the pool was heated when we were there. The inn itself is very charming! The balcony facing the trees was nice to hear the birds and was peaceful. Reminded me of an inn we stayed in off the Appalachian trail. The staff was very friendly and always willing to answer and question or concerns and recommended a nice local pub.

Nice setting but the whole place needs upgrading. No wifi or cell service (Spectrum). Toilet was slow to flush, exhaust fan was VERY loud and upon initial entry you could smell cigarettes. At the price i paid, i would not recommend. An elevator would be helpful too. Bare bones bteakfast.

Love the property! The pizzeria and the speakeasy are terrific! My only complaint is the level of humidity in the room was so high, it made it a little uncomfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

Unique hotel with an old vibe. Property was very pretty and quiet. Walking distance to one of the parks and the restaurant/bar on the property had great food and drinks. Only downside was the hotel is in need of some maintenance and repairs.
