The hotel and staff are great. It’s a vintage property but well kept. Great location. The only sad part was not having a hot tube or a pool.

I know it’s an older hotel but I was surprised at how thin the walls were. I could hear a kid crying next door & a lady coughing. Lots of hall light coming in under the door at night as well. The staff on the other hand, were absolutely amazing! Extremely helpful & friendly. The room was clean just very dated.

I love historical hotels and the San Carlos didn't disappoint! It was clean and classy, but still had a great, historical feel.

Dated facility that does not compare to most hotels. Feels like it is 1960s style. Staff very good but hotel amenities non-existent.

Cute old place

This small unique hotel has long been my goto when I stay in downtown Phoenix. Prime location, less expensive.

I have stayed at Hotel San Carlos several times. This is an historic old Hotel with tons of history. It is a clean, quiet no frills hotel. Take some time and read the history posted around the hotel. Some of the postings are fairly odd. Rumor has it this hotel is haunted. I never had an encounter! Here is a little bonus. On the third floor is access to a great rooftop patio. This hotel does not have a bar/restaurant inside. There is a fantastic Mexican themed restaurant called Centrico attached to the hotel and a great Irish Pub called Seamus McCaffrey’s next door. The fish fry is exceptional.

Power strip didn’t work - couldn’t charge phones, etc. Old hotel with very few outlets. Very hard pillows, scratchy sheets. Room was clean, shower was nice. Staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. Easy walking distance to several downtown venues for sports and entertainment. Multiple dining options and bars close by also. Much more affordable that other hotels in the immediate vicinity.

The only downside was unloading/check-in... The designated unloading area was not enough space to park. And the parking garage was located with entrance from a different street.

Convenient location, functional, but pricey

Overall the stay was fine and everything in the room was functional and clean. It was fun to stay in the historic hotel and it was in a great location for being near the conference center. However I believe there's a difference between keeping the historic feel and deciding to not update anything. The AC was pretty lackluster and it was pretty warm in the room even in March and overall the room felt more similar to a motel room than a relatively pricey hotel room. I think just a few cosmetic and bedding upgrades could go a long way. The same can be said for the gym which seemed like a second thought with a lot of broken equipment and the pool which was drained with trash in the bottom.

Historic old hotel, run-down but comfort sleep

A historic old hotel, actually on the National Register. Run down these days, but still had a common and quiet sleep. Room and bathroom were clean. Quiet. Bars and restaurants across the road and next door. Bathroom is very small. Good, central location near light rail stop from airport. Ok for a one night stay and the history.
