Loved this hotel’s location and rooms and gym. They had some issues with running out of drinks at the bar (like anything anybody ordered) but that could have been a fluke. Overall, I would definitely stay here again.

I think the Viking did a lot with an old property. But maintenance is behind and the place is worn (carpets, paint, cracked vanity, loose toilet, etc.). Our mini suite was large and had 2 TVs. Bed was comfortable but elevated 40” off the floor which was hard to get into. Location is 0.03 miles from the warf which is where most of the action is. 20 minute walk from cliff walk. We were able to find adjacent street parking and avoid the $45 valet fee. I did think $20 for 1 shot of Forrester in the bar was excessive. Checkin was nice.

The Hotel Viking is a historic property that is in good repair and general maintenance. Dining options are VERY limited and the bar/lounge is grossly undersized in proportion to the hotel's capacity. Our "Junior Suite" was a long, narrow room featuring an enormous elevated bed (steps required to get in/out) at the far end. Such placement did not allow for TV watching while in bed. The couch opposite the TV was well-worn, and the mattress was punishing. All lights in the room were self standing lamps which required individual attention. It was a bit disconcerting at the first entry. The bath/shower featured black mold in the grout next to the tub. When bedding was requested for the couch, we received two pillows and a fan(?). Our stay was overnight to see the 'Breakers' in full holiday splendor. Our hotel experience was sufficient for the purpose. Perhaps the biggest hotel attraction is that it is dog-friendly.

It was extremely expensive for what was available. For example, two very small cups of clam chowder and one small can of Coke cost me $34.50. There also was a huge charge to park your car. Finally, it needs renovations. In that regard, the old heater in the room was extremely loud.

Beautiful classic historical hotel just down the road from the Newport “Cottages” shopping and Thames Street. Parking has gotten to be expensive in Newport be prepared. We ate at Nicola’s restaurant on Memorial drive, excellent and not over priced.
