Check in was easy and quick and Lilly was so sweet. Room is fantastic - the bunk beds were perfect for our two boys. And the location is perfect. We walked from the train station and we are across the street from St. James Park so our boys were thrilled !

False advertising of these "suites", nothing like the photos. Grubby, hairs on towels, botched up in multiple places, sofa bed dirty and very small, toilet hanging on the wall, felt very unsafe. Shouldn't be allowed to sell these sub standard suites when booked the room in the website. No city view, view of a building site, light bulb not working. Old room they probably give to people staying 1 night. If I had of been staying longer I wouldn't have been back to reception but we got the room and then just left.

Good staff but poor infrastructure
Had very courteous, helpful staff but the hotel is far from comfortable. There are only two lifts and we had a situation when one was not working for sometime. The safe in the room was not working. The safe was kept on the floor so really difficult to operate as one had to sit on the floor to use it in case it was usable. Some switches not working. The direct dial buttons for the various hotel services on the phone was not working. When we informed the front desk, was told to dial 0 for anything. Would avoid staying there again.

Lovely entrance to the hotel, however not a very personal check in by the member of staff at reception ,- felt very robotic and she barely made eye contact. Room was clean and shower was nice, however the room was small, and it was noisy looking over the newly built stack next to st James park. Obviously can't be helped but the windows didn't seem to block out much outdoor sound. There isn't any reasonably priced parking nearby which also makes it quite awkward when carrying bags from the car. For the price of the room, I was expecting a little more from the hotel but was left a bit disappointed

Really hot room, no air conditioning, tried opening window but all thecair conditioning on the roof running and very noisy, so no sleep, tried having a shower in the morning but no hot water, when complained to reception, their answer was " The coffee machine seems ok??"

I have stayed at the Newcastle Sandman a few times while visiting in the past and have had a pleasant stay. This time however a new music venue oppostite the hotel very much spoiled our stay. The very loud music from there almost all day made it impossible to have a snooze when we checked in to the room after our long drive north, and then when we tried to get some sleep at around 9.30pm were completely unable to until the new venue opposite had closed for the night. The windows at the hotel are not very thick and dont fit very well and so we had no way of blocking out the continued very loud music. It is a shame for the hotel, as it is out of their control, but i will no longer be booking the Sandman for my visits to Newcastle.

The centre of town was never going to be quiet but there is now the Stack which was pumping out music and drunkards way into the night. Room was standard but a little dated. Convenient but for the price I had expected better. Staff were great to be honest.
