I recently stayed at Hotel St. James during a trip to NYC to see several Broadway shows, and the best part of the hotel was definitely the location. It was only about a 5-minute walk to every theater I needed to get to, which made getting to and from shows incredibly convenient.
The room itself was very small—just enough space for the bed, really—but that was expected based on the price and location. It was mostly clean, but I did notice a few stray hairs on the bathroom floor that definitely weren’t mine, which made me question how thoroughly the room had been cleaned before my arrival.
One issue I had was the temperature in the room. Despite it being relatively cool outside (between 35 and 60 degrees), my room was uncomfortably warm and muggy. I asked the front desk for a fan, and they were great about getting one to me within an hour, which helped a bit. Still, the room never really reached a comfortable temperature during my stay.
On the plus side, the room had plenty of outlets—enough to plug in my phone, watch, laptop, CPAP machine, and more all at once, which I appreciated. The shower was also surprisingly great, with strong water pressure and just the right water temperature.
Overall, I’m pretty indifferent about whether I’d stay here again. If I got a good deal, I might, but if another hotel had similar pricing and location, I’d probably try something new. The location is definitely what makes this hotel stand out—but for me, that was the most important thing whe
