Whoops we overcharged you

The hotel itself was nice and the staff was friendly, a few weeks after my trip I noticed a charge for $106 on my credit card, but shouldn’t have been there from the Crowne Plaza. Prepaid reservation through Hotels.com and they still tried to charge me the room rate for one of the nights that I stayed there on my credit card. When I called the hotel, they offered no explanation or reason why this could’ve happened, but they did refund the money. I’ve had this happen to me at least 10 times at different hotels after pre-paying reservations through Hotels.com I’m starting to think that it is a standard business practice for these hotels to hope you will not notice that they charged you extra and just steal your money.
