Great Montevideo Spot

We had a great experience. We needed to be near the ferry terminal and it was a nice walk in the morning with cafes on the way. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean!

Simply the best!

A few days before, we could upgrade our room for a corner loft, which was very spatious, top clean and very confortable! Also, the restaurant in this hotel serves excellent meals and we ended up eating all our breakfasts and dinner at ‘Americano’ because prices were competitive and the food was excellent. We also appreciate the location; very near ‘Plaza de Independencia’ and all the markets in the streets nearby when a cruise ship was in Montevideo. Moreover, the staff was very profesionnal, courteous and very kind! I highly recommand Smart hôtel!

Great value for money, rooms are excellent, spacious and with modern furniture. In my room there were a few minor wear and tear issues needing attention, like minor paint retouches and the safe was locked. But everything else good, towels thick and clean smelling, same for linen, great pillows, the bed was fantastic, nice coffee area, and the bathroom was clean and spacious. Areas outside the room like access corridor and elevators, excellent. The hotel has a small restaurant downstairs.

Views from the room were very nice, and the property had everything we needed. Powerful AC. The staff were very helpful and kind. We arrived early by Buquebus from Buenos Aires, and they stowed our luggage. A day before we arrived we requested a slightly early check-in, but they were unable to accommodate us. It was the one thing they might have been able to do better.

The area was not what we expected. We worried about safety in the area as many shut store fronts and graffiti. We had a double room with a terrace. The mattress and pillows were terrible. I slept with the rough towel as my pillow.Bathroom was generally ok. The kitchenette not really helpful. Centrally located for Plaza Independencia, Mercado and the rambla. Their saving grace and our escape is the American Bar. The reception staff were helpful though not all spoke English. Surely a minimum requirement for hotel reception staff? We hated having to book a time for breakfast. When on vacation one wants to have breakfast when one is ready.

Nice hotel just off the main avenue, but in a bit of a off the beaten path. There are a few sketchy people around but it's very convenient to independence square, Palacio Salvo and old Montevideo. The restaurant recommendations made by the hotel were excellent. I've stayed here before and one thing worth mentioning is the wide swing in pricing, as cheap as $60 per night and sometimes over $100...

Nice, basic hotel. Staff were professional, but didn’t make extra effort to be friendly or helpful. Absolutely no issues, to be clear but a little “sparkle” goes a long way in hospitality. The area was quite noisy, even with window shut and latched, but that can be expected in urban areas. In house restaurant and bar was sufficent, but hours and menu were limited and it was confusing on seating/service/ordering expectations.
