The property was beautiful, especially the check in area with the arboreteum. Rooms were large and clean. Staff was exceellent and the location was perfect for experiencing downtown or Fisherman's Wharf. It was about a 20-25 minute walk to the aquarium but it was a beautiful walk. Really enjoyed the property!

For a hotel this size there should have been a second pool and hot tub. It felt more like staying at a timeshare than a spa. The staff were all very friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable.

We stayed there as a family and had a great stay! Great location, close to restaurants and the wharf. Our dog received a bandana at check-in. Dog beds and bowls also available upon request.

Too expensive and poor value

I had booked this room 7 months in advance yet when I checked in I was told they were full and my room was downgraded but charged the same price. I was told to check back each day to see if the room I booked and paid for was available but why would I have to do that for 4 days; just poor thinking. Also how can rooms that are over $500 a night not have any water in them even for purchase yet have coffee machines in the room. There was no in hotel access to simple convenience items like water or snakes unless it was in a vending machine near the ice that wouldn’t take credit cards. Overall poor value but the staff were relatively good otherwise.

Don’t clean

Didn’t clean the room. You must request room cleaning, as they claim this is to save the environment. Really it saves a lot in costs for the hotel, even after requesting our room to be cleaned it wasn’t. Not what you expect for a hotel of this price

Extremely convenient location to see and explore Monterey Bay. Our family with two small children were able to easily walk to the aquarium, the wharf and the delicious restaurants and bakeries. The room itself was clean and quiet. It came with everything we bneeded to stay comfortably

We’ve stayed at the Portola half a dozen times and always enjoyed ourselves. The staff is friendly and attentive, the property is well kept and the location gives you easy walkable access to the pier and to downtown.
