We stayed at Gaviana for one night as a bridge to the nearby resort we booked for a week starting the next day. Arrived around 1 PM on Friday and were checked in immediately even though it was early. Nice, clean, basic room with a King bed and an ocean view. Right in the heart of the Golden Zone, so lots of dining options nearby and only a short walk to the north end of the Malecon. The staff was welcoming and friendly and had someone who speaks English avao;ab;e if needed. The only way it fell short is if you are a sun bather - real sun bathing, not sitting under an umbrella around the pool. Like many of the smaller resorts in the area, they simply are not properly equipped for those who want to lay out in the sun. So, I would recommend this resort if such is not a priority for you.

Gaviana Resort is beautiful with a gorgeous ocean view and a great central location where shopping and attractions are at a breeze. Their staff was very welcoming and friendly. The service at the front desk was always prompt, accommodating and polite. The food and service at the restaurant were always wonderful, and the cleaning service was always excellent. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay!! We will certainly go back!!

Bartender had limited experience making/preparing basic drinks. Restaurant staff was very judgemental. Whenever we would ask for something such as for milk, our server would ask why? Or what for? Staff at times was rude and unhelpful.

This property was great to relax and spend some time by the pool and on the beach. The noise level is pretty high because of the banditos on the beach, as well as the outdoor club that goes pretty late. I used ear plugs to help me sleep.

Our room looked over the pool area. Our first night in room 419 the smoke defector started chirping at about 3am. I called reception and she sent maintenance up to replace the battery. There was no hot water at all to take a shower. My husband found this out. We told them at the reception desk and sh said she would get it fixed. Didn't happen. I will never stay here again.

I would have liked to have given our stay here more stars because the hotel was beautiful and clean, the location was so good for what we wanted. Lots of restaurant choices just across or down the street within 1-5 minutes walk, and the beach was phenomenal! But this hotel has one major problem. The noise. I’d read the odd review mentioning the noise but you always wonder if the person writing the review just likes to exaggerate. However I’m surprised how understated the noise issue is. Our first room was located on one side of the building overlooking a bar that has a brass “Banda” that plays until midnight and then dance music til 4am nightly. Not just weekends. Every night. The concrete on the hotel acts like an amphitheatre and the band sounds like it’s right outside your door. There is no way to sleep through it. It’s LOUD. So after 3 nights when we realized it was not just a Friday and Saturday thing we asked to be moved to a quieter room which they did with no questions (turns out everyone asks to be moved from these rooms!) Unfortunately we were moved and downgraded from a balcony/ocean view to no balcony and a tree blocking the only window. And right above another bar that plays dance music til 4am with bass that literally rattles the windows. Again, no sleep. We lasted 3 nights there before talking to another couple who told us the quiet area is the centre and that they moved 3 times before discovering it. Finally we found a room that we could sleep in.
