Friendly hotel close to Chatsworth house. Reasonably priced, comfortable and clean room. The food was very good as was the breakfast. Friendly staff too. There are EV chargers in the car park which is a bonus.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Clean room, friendly staff.
We stayed for one night when visiting Chatsworth House. Met by friendly staff on arrival. Check in process quick and easy (checked in online). Found our rooms easily. Rooms were clean. We liked the style of the decor. A lot of peeling paint/patches on the walls. One room had an issue with a very noisy bathroom ceiling fan but we sought help the issue was temporarily rectified (to be look into more detail upon departure). Bed was comfy. Good amenities, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities.
Staff were friendly and attentive. The room was very well presented, just a shame that there was no aiir conditioning which resulted in the room being excessively hot until almost midnight. The room was positioned above a kitchen door which kept banging shut till late and again from the beginning of breakfast which resonated up through the floor and onto the bed. Good room, terrible/ little sleep.
Not their fault, but the room was very hot.
The kitchen fans were just outside the room and they stayed on all night.
They were clearly understaffed for dinner in the evening and the breakfast menu online didn’t really make sense.
However the staff were all really lovely and the surrounding areas were fantastic and worth a visit.
We chose the G&C for an overnight stay after a day at Chatsworth House, due to its location and proximity to the house.
The welcome was bright and warm, just like the rooms. The rooms were spacious and modern, well decorated and clean, with comfy beds and great facilities. Tea and coffee were good and the bathrooms were clean and tidy.
We chose to take breakfast and dinner in the bar. The breakfast was lovely and set us up for our journey. The dinner the night before was a touch disappointing. The veggie sausage and mash used the same cheap vegan sausage used for the breakfast, which we're not appropriate for a hearty evening meal. This is not the fault of the chef or pub team but a poor choice by the menu development chef at head office.
Other than suggesting you look a little further afield for dinner, I'd recommend the G&C for a short stay in the Derbyshire Dales. The team made us feel welcome here.
Absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Let’s be realistic, fifty eight quid a night is not gonna get you the Ritz. It’s clean, it’s warm, it’s comfortable, Bed really comfy and you are above an absolutely charming public house with a lovely welcoming feel and country style. Drinks priced as normal pubs. Staff are great and the breakfast was perfect. Parking no problem. What more could you ask for. Defo go again. Yea we’re happy. If I have one complaint (being a beggar for disliking things not in line) the toilet seat was not in line with the pot. I soon sorted that out. If that’s all I have to ‘Grouse’ about it can’t be bad!!
Thanks Grouse & Claret for a good stay. Will be back

Great location for visiting many lovely properties, towns and villages. Lived up to its description for accommodation which was extremely welcome. Lovely room, bathroom and comfy bed with well sourced comfort tray. All the staff we came into contact with were very friendly and helpful.
Thoroughly recommend this Marston’s Inn and will be making it our go to place to stay when in the area. Arriving in Derbyshire day 1 afternoon visited Hardwick Hall. Day 2 at Chatsworth Xmas (10 mins away) day 3 morning Hadden Hall Xmas (5 mins away) before heading for home.
