This hotel was constructed in 1876 and fully renovated in the last couple of years. It maintains the look and ambiance of the original throughout while all the HVAC and bathrooms are modern. An architectural gem is my evaluation. It is in the downtown with lots to see and experience. The local food options are good Midwestern and filling. The in house restaurant and bar weren't open at this time. However, the overall experience of a period hotel is worth the stay. We will be returning for another extended stay as the area has so much to see and do in a 45 mile radius of the town and hotel. Bet the fall colors are wonderful.
On the upside: Beautiful old building with a well maintained interior for its age. High ceilings and antique furniture sets it apart from the ordinary. Convenient location for attending a show at Codfish Hollow Barnstormers venue. On the downside: The manager did not provide info about the availability of a refrigerator and microwave. I had to ask for the wifi password. Not a good breakfast, and there are very few dining options in town.
The staff were very helpful and the property itself is very charming! I was slightly disappointed with the breakfast options, however.

Hotel needs some love
Hotel seemed clean. I had visited the hotel 25 years ago. it was beautiful at that time. It needs work on the outside, and it looks like they are doing work on the inside in some areas. The hotel is quiet. The bed was wonderful. The whirlpool was very nice. The shower had great water pressure. The elevator is slow and old. The breakfast that is included is a contenential. No seating area in the breakfast room, you need to sit in the lobby or go back to your room. There are no luggage carts so we needed to make several trips to unload. It was definately adequate, and the best option in Maquoketa, other than the B&B in town which fills quickly.
I loved the quaint old-fashioned luxury, the antique furniture, the feeling of stepping back in time, but with the convenience of air-conditioning, modern plumbing, comfortable beds, and an elevator.
The gentleman at the front desk was super helpful and nice! Our room was large enough for three people comfortably. The only “problems” we ran into were there was only one tv in a two bedded room and the breakfast included was yogurt/cereal and cereal bars. There is a diner in town that had great food though as an alternative. Other than that this is a beautiful place to stay, clean and everyone working there was super polite. Thank you for your hospitality!
This property was beautiful. Clean. Friendly staff. The bed and pillows were comfortable. I travel a lot and my only suggestion would be for a small refrigerator and microwave to be in the room. Most of the time we eat out and have leftovers or bring snacks and such that may need those modern conveniences.
There was no bar or restaurant as advertised. Not even a vending machine.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Cool, historic building - 19th century decor everywhere. Had never heard of before and looked like recently / still undergoing renovations. Very clean and stately for age.
Only a 3 on facilities because the restaurant / bar wasn't open (Told bar tender not coming in today?) and would've liked to grab a drink in what looks like a cool place (at least from pic's). Didn't check out surrounding area. Just wasn't on agenda. I know Maquoketa is VERY safe, typical, small, midwest city main street but can't comment on Main St amenities. Hope the place does well!
