Very nice hotel in a convenient location. Merced is a wonderful city and we were close to everything, including a 15 minute drive to UC Merced. The bed was super comfortable. The decor is very streamlined, modern and clean.

The room was very clean and good size. The bed was too soft for me but my husband liked it. Walk-in shower is interesting, the water tends to spray outside of the shower. The amenities were nice. The restaurant, the Rainbird located in the hotel was very good and the service was wonderful.

El Capitan is where luxury meets cozy. You have convenient valet upon arrival. There is a nice sit-down restaurant called Rainbird that has a well thought out menu. Then there is Native Son, a sort of cafe turn full bar which sells cocktails and small dishes. You get the coziness from the atmosphere that the staff create. Despite feeling upscale, everyone working there is down-to-earth and never hesitate to ensure you are enjoying your stay. For all you pet lovers, this hotel is pet-friendly! The rooms are clean, decor is well thought out. Looking out the window you can see the historic downtown area, which boasts of nostalgia. A wine bar next door, to The Mainer down the street, all the way to local Art Deco theater- there is something to do for everyone in your family within walking distance. El Captain is located in the quaint city of Merced, called “The Gateway to Yosemite”, and you can’t find a finer location to rest, relax, and rejuvenate in. Room prices are so very reasonable compared to all El Capitan has to offer. Do yourself a favor and book at least a night, as it will quickly become favorite property to stay.
