We had a great time here. Upon check-in, we were given a gift bag with water, s’mores makings, and fish food so we could feed the fish at their on-site fish farm. They have several fire pits on their property and a creek that runs behind it. The restaurant food was a bit expensive, but delicious. I look forward to staying there again.

Trails Motel in Lone Pine is a sweet little motel, reasonably priced for the area. The front desk and cleaner saw when we arrived that our room hadn't been cleaned yet, so they hopped right to it and did our room. The room was very, very clean. This is definitely a no frills motel but we knew that and just needed a place to lay our heads before heading to Death Valley. If you don't need any extras, this is a clean, well managed, low-key stay.

The room was big and the shower was very clean and warm (though not a lot of pressure). Room was mostly clean but could use an update. The view of Mt. Whitney was beautiful. However, about two hours into our stay as we settled into sleep the room began to smell horribly. It was a sour sewer smell like something died in the room. It made breathing and sleeping terrible. We had no clue what it was but it was the worst. Also the room did not have a smoke detector which I am sure is a huge safety violation. We probably should have demanded a new room. If there was a fire we might not have awoken. Terrifying to think about. Tried to report issues in the morning but no one was around when we left.

Do not book this motel. We were unable to stay at the motel because of road closures due to snow on our day of travel, 11/15. Because we purchase insurance through Travelocity when making the reservation, we thought we would be reimbursed as we had to stay at another hotel for the evening in a different area. But because the Motel claimed we stayed the night - which we didn't do - our claim has been repeatedly denied by Generali. We won't stay there or book through Travelocity or use Generali again.
