Great Location, But That’s About It
I recently stayed at The Capri Hotel in Laguna Beach as part of my honeymoon road trip, and unfortunately, this was the most disappointing leg of our journey. While the location is undeniably beautiful — the beach area is stunning, peaceful, and the highlight of our stay — the hotel itself left a lot to be desired.
We spent two lovely days enjoying the beach, but even this wasn’t without its issues. On our first day, we asked the hotel if they had any additional beach chairs, as there were only five available for the entire property. We were told no, which seemed odd given the size of the hotel and the resort fee we were paying. Thankfully, on the second day, two helpful staff members appeared with extra chairs and umbrellas for guests — a small win.
We inquired about upgrading to a sea-view room, hoping for something a bit special for our honeymoon. We were shocked to be quoted $900 for just two nights for a partial sea view — needless to say, we declined.
When we entered our room, we were hit with a musty smell and an overwhelming sense that the place was stuck in the past. It’s in desperate need of renovation. The beds were uncomfortable, the bed linen was scratchy and outdated, and the overall feel of the room was tired. You get a couple of sheets and a fluffy blanket — if it’s hot, be prepared to sweat or try to sleep through the roar of the ancient air conditioning unit.
