Great view but needs some attention

The balcony door requires two people to open it. The door to the room does not close properly and needs some attention. The bathroom toilets are outdated, reminiscent of the last century. Considering the price, more care should be taken to improve these issues.

Hotel staff pretty dang unfriendly. I asked for early check in, never got it, that’s ok. But I expected the room the be clean especially for a 4pm check in. There were used cotton swabs in the cotton swab tray and some furniture in disarray. Lighting in the bathroom was terrible. Balcony and view amazing. No signage for pool, literally NONE. Was told I needed a pool key for the pool key didn’t work.. wedding was on the rooftop blasting music so loud my whole room was shaking. Very interesting they wouldn’t notify guests. Overall won’t be back. Especially for the price.

My biggest advice- take the upgrade. The Pines is the renovated version of La Jolla Coves and very modern, clean, and functional. I initially was placed in one of the regular rooms and I would have never stayed there- the room was dirty and the quality of a cheap motel. Otherwise, this property is a fantastic location and the staff was nice. When I reported the dirty room they addressed my concerns promptly and upgraded my room.

I did not have a good stay. The property was hosting a party with "very" loud music playing right next to my accommodation. I asked the host if there was another room and was refused. Expedia/property itself should have provided heads up of the loud music in advance. Essentially, the basic function that a hotel has, to provide a safe, comfortable, clean place to rest to their guests, La Jolla Cove Suites missed the mark terribly on the comfort factor. Also, there were too many steps to get to the rooms, and no help was offered with carrying bags. Lastly, the property, at least my accommodation, was old and needs renovation.

I loved the ocean view and the balcony. There are many seals across the street and plenty of shops within walking distance. Some people might complain about the noise of the seals, but if your window is closed you can’t hear them. I kept the balcony door open just a little and I could only hear a seal once in a while at night. Waking up to that ocean view was just beautiful. I had planned to leave the following day, but I had gone to La Jolla for a medical procedure and I didn’t feel well that night, so I had my husband ask at the front desk, if we could stay another night for the same price. I don’t know if this was an exception for me, since I was still recovering. Either way, I was very grateful and they were very nice about it. I will definitely go back again. I’d also add that I stayed in one of the remodels, not the older buildings. Thank you La Jolla Cove, for making my trip less stressful.

We ended up staying here because of the views it offers right by the cove and the seals, which made our stay even more convenient since there was many things to do. Once arriving to our room, we stayed on the unrenovated side of the hotel and was disappointed with the room we got, when we found two little bugs crawling under the sheets of the bed. We told them about the situation and sent them photos. We were upgraded to a room but this time our room was on the renovated side of the hotel they call The Pine hotel and suite. Way better room, checked out the beds immediately and was very clean and pleasant, really enjoyed our stay after that.

This would've gotten a higher rating if my initial room in the Terrace section was actually more like advertised in the picture. I understand these are not as modern as the Pines but unit I was in was vastly different than in the pictures -- dirty carpet and floor, less decor, kitchen was dilapidated. I appreciate the upgrade to the Pines once I made these concerns known to management.

Location is ideal. I remembered the area from 20 years ago. Hotel has 2 sections, old outdated building & new updated building. Wish I’d paid attention more to this registering. I would have preferred the updated hotel building side. Likely will never stay at this hotel if it’s the old outdated section. First the room was way up 4 areas with stairs up hill from parking. Then room was bad. Sink clogged, dirty kitchen, & power electric issue with ac unit plus no tv remote control. Had to walk all the way down stairs to front dest to request new room. They were accommodating, but it was another old outdated room. Finally front desk told me there was another small parking lot close to our room up the hill, much better than 4 flights of stairs. 2nd hotel room was an upgrade in size but the furniture is thrift shore 1980 style. Outdated, boring & plain. Kitchen was the worst. Little extra money to update old broken outdated kitchen would be first choice. Too overpriced for the room we got. Only good thing to say is it’s in a nice location.

The listing shows the upgraded portion of the hotel only and does not show the older portion where rooms are located. Not what was expected AT ALL! Very odd set up - 3 different properties. Did not feel like a hotel but rather a very dated apartment complex. Extremely disappointed.
