Booked a 2 bedroom room on Expedia. It was just recently constructed- clean, modern, spacious with even a small kitchen, washing machine and large patio. Beds were very comfortable and the AC unit quiet and more than sufficient. Room was cleaned nicely daily. Pleasantly surprised that our booking was all inclusive for meals. The food here was superb with fresh fish, fruit and an impressive desert selection. Construction is ongoing. So there is some noise and some of the rooms need renovating. Common areas such as pool, lobby, and dining area carried an appealing modern island decor. The small reef just outside the hotel was easily accessible and contained a good variety of fishes. Great place to learn to scuba as the waters were calm and there is a separate dive pool. I would recommend this hotel.

When you walk into the Van der Valk lobby, you think - AMAZING this place is going to be great. Subtle tropical scents, huge pieces of art, a boutique store, wall fountain. Then you see the pool beyond and it's impressive. Huge sunshelf with loungers in the water, cabanas with no reservations, beautiful lighting and landscaping. And the beach is simply impressive, snorkel right off the short and see intact coral and many types of sea life. Then you get to the food and drink at the one restaurant (yes, you can get snacks and drinks at the pool bar, but it's small and crowded so I'll leave that off). The food here is also incredible. Fresh fish every lunch time, and sushi options for dinner. The best beef I've ever had at an all inclusive and lamb on several nights was outstanding. No on to the not so great. The room was the start of the - what did we get into. It was huge, straight out of the 1980s/1970s. Many outlets were hanging out of the walls and not tight. Our shower consisted of a shower head and a pile of broken glass bricks which only partially kept the water from spraying all over the bathroom. There were no robes, as promised from the room overview. There were multiple mosquitos several times in our room, as the seal around the door wasn't tight. The door to the bathroom wasn't a fit so it didn't close correctly. I realize they're in the process of upgrading the rooms, but it was not a luxury experience, more horrific to see once you left the lovely lobby.

Beautiful property and very friendly staff. But, we requested an airport shuttle and champagne in the room upon arrival and they dropped the ball. They required reservations for the dinner buffet, but it was open seating. Breakfast time had champagne at the hostess table, but they were warm. The food was fresh and the selection of seafood was amazing. Water bottles weren't refilled in the mini fridge unless requested. Paddle boarding, fish ID class, and driftwood painting were all very fun! Very nice burthday trip!! With some minor tweaks, it could be 5 star. I would definitely come back!
