This is a fine motel just a couple short blocks up from the main Kona town tourist strip. It is a solid 2.5 stars. Rooms are large with balconies. Bed was comfortable. Internet free and fast. Down sides: ac was a very noisy wall unit, no coffee maker in room. They did add $50 for parking and amenities. So bottom line higher than suggested on website.

The parking lot was full so we had to pay an extra $35 to park in another lot. They reimbursed $10. There were spots and stains all over the carpet. The toilet clogged. Check in and check out took forever because they were understaffed or staff didn’t know what they were doing. The lounge furniture has stains or wet spots on it. The complementary coffee service was low on cream and no sugar with no one in site to help. It looked like one person was running everything in the morning, like desk, coffee service, cleaning, etc. The hotel is obviously old and they’ve done some renovations but kind of like putting pearls on a pig. It is completely walkable but maybe pay a little more for a nicer place close by.

Expensive renovated motel

For the price we paid in Canadian dollars ($900 for two nights), it was absolutely crazy how much this renovated motel cost. Be prepared for added $25 usd fee for amenities (even if you don’t use them) and $25/day usd for parking. The bathroom shower hasn’t been updated and is clearly decades old - fighting for a consistent shower temp is something we haven’t had to do at a hotel, ever. We could have stayed at the Fairmont Banff where we’re from for the same cost as we did here. This was us a spot to sleep while on our trip, but not much else (no microwave, no wine glasses, pool closed early, not allowed to use the bonfire tables, etc) - we won’t be back due to the insane pricing of this place.
