Great Hotel
The reason for my trip was to have a place to stay while Hurricane Milton threatened Tampa where I live. I had originally made a reservation at another hotel which the other hotel did not honor. I immediately tried to find an alternate place and got a reservation at the Southbank Hotel. Given what happened at the other hotel, I was concerned about whether I had a place to stay or not. The Southbank staff quickly reassured me they had my reservation and would provide me a place to stay. I was so thankful that they provided this reassurance. Only gripe might be that they made us wait until 4 pm to check in. There were a lot of us from the Tampa region and it ended up taking them over an hour to service everyone. But I have to say the staff did try to get everyone serviced as quickly as possible. The hotel was a comfortable place to stay while waiting out the storm and it was convenient to restaurants so I could get food while I was there. THANK YOU to the Southbank hotel staff!! You helped us in our hour of need and I can’t thank you enough.

We arrived because we were evacuated from our home. I realize it was a stressful time but no one was able to help you. I tried to book an additional night and I was told they couldn’t help me. I went onto Orbitz and booked it right away. No maid service. I asked several times for towels and have yet to receive them.

We stayed after evacuating from Tampa area and an arduous 7 hour drive in traffic. We arrived to a huge line up to checkin at 1:30am. You’d think I would give the hotel a low rating but, honestly, they were operating under stressful conditions too and all the staff greeted us with a smile and we ended up having a great nights sleep so I have to give them full credit for handling this unusual situation with grace.

Beware of the hotel charging you fees without explanation! I stayed one night of my 2 night booking and was charged extra fees. I unexpectedly had to return home early from my trip and I was charged fees that the hotel will not explain. I have called the hotel 4 times and left messages for the manager and have received no response.

We reserved a room for the Navy Chief Khaki Ball. At arrival we were informed by our own peers that many third party ordered rooms had been canceled. WITHOUT notification to the customers of this happening. Fortunately, this was not our situation but many of our peers found themselves in this predicament. Once we checked into our room, we noticed the lack of cleanliness. There was spilled soda on the counter top and inside of a drawer. In addition, the desk chair was filthy with crumbs and soda residue. Next, onto the banquet hall food. We might as well have gone to a hospital cafeteria because that is exactly the quality in which we received. In fact, I’ve had better food at hospitals. I understand having to provide for such a large quantity of people, however frozen bag mash potatoes, frozen steam in a bag veggies, and frozen chicken is not the exact answer. NOTHING about the food was fresh. Not to mention there was NO options for those who may have diet restrictions. The one spot of the hotel which held to its Marriot standard was the bar. It was lively, the staff was attentive, and it was clean. Overall, the event was a bit of a bust and instead of taking advantage of the room we reserved for the night, we ended up going home.
