The strikers with bullhorns until 10pm every night was obnoxious. Other than that we enjoyed our visit.

The staff was on strike for fair wages. There was no room service for cleaning or new towels if needed. The strikers were playing drums and chanting, until the late evening. The line to check in at the front desk, was absurd and slow. The hotel offered nothing and there was no notice of the strike. The buffet breakfast was not very good and it was expensive. I felt like I was at a convention. Some of the pools were closed for repairs. Would not go back!

Our stay was average due to the strake of the hotel personnel. No services available. Bu the remaining staff did what they could to help customers during the time we stay. Parking on the other side way too expensive!! It’s more expensive to pay for parking than rent a car.

When Local 5 goes marching in.
When it's your mom's life long dream to go to Hawaii, as her daughter I made her dream come true. When I booked this hotel I was so excited. It had everything we were looking for. However, when we showed up, the union was on strike. Room cleaning services were suspended. Some of the restaurants and pool bars were closed as well. If you needed additional towels or toilet paper, you had to go and fetch it yourself. The rooms were not once cleaned since we started our dream vacation. The first room they assigned to us was dirty and dusty from not being cleaned. We had to request a room change. In the process of changing rooms, my mom lost her favorite jean jacket. What was suppose to be a relaxing vacation, turned out to be filled with nonstop strike activities occurring at every entrance and exit of the hotel. Chanting started at 7 am and did not stop until 10pm. On one morning, striking started at 5am. This was intolerable and unacceptable. They never notified us of there being a strike at this hotel. If either Hilton or Hotels.com had notified us prior to our stay, I would have canceled the reservation and rebooked with another hotel. This totally ruined our Hawaii experience.

The Employees were on strike during our stay and it was a different experience with many of the restaraunts and bars shutdown. The strike was at the main entrance and on the beach and they were loud. I am sure once that is resolved, the hotel will be great and clean. However, the hotel did their best with lack of staff and attempted to make us feel as best as possible.

Stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for 7 days and found it to be a mixed experience. Pros: Location is convenient to everything in Waikiki. The beach is big and clean. We enjoyed the view of the water from our lanai. Friday fireworks were a highlight. The many restaurants within the resort are nice, as are the pools. Cons: The tower we stayed in (Rainbow) was run down with dirty hallway carpet and chipped paint in the room. The workers were (are?) in the middle of a strike so that may have accounted for things seeming a bit dirtier than usual. It also meant we received no housekeeping for our stay and many of the amenities were limited (e.g., poolside bars closed, kid activities cancelled). The strikers were also SO loud. There are enough of them that they were protesting at every entrance and at the beach. Protests started around 7am and lasted until 10pm. With a room that faced the beach, we basically fell asleep and woke to protesting. Speaking of sleep, the mattresses in the rooms were old and uncomfortable and felt small (full sized rather than queen). We complained several times about the noise before finally reaching someone in management willing to give us a partial discount. Expedia offered us money on a future booking but weren’t particularly helpful in resolving the issue with the hotel. Not sure I would consider staying again even if the strike was resolved. While it continues, I would most certainly encourage others to rebook elsewhere if they can.

Overall disappointing for the price, especially the paid upgrade, I assumed it would be better. The room is dated with many cracks in the walls, bathroom was not as clean as one would expect from a Hilton. I would never recommend it to anyone. The staff strike did not help at all but honestly, my issue was with the facilities more than the staff.

Hilton, you had one chance to make a good first impression and it was an epic FAIL. Unfortunately, the striking union noise from 7Am -10PM ruined any chance of a peaceful relaxing vacation and the ongoing, construction, lack of housekeeping and water shut off were unwanted additions to our stay. We won’t be back and considering how you seemingly treat your staff we won’t be staying at Hilton properties going forward.

For my first and possibly only trip to Hawaii the management of the Hilton and local 5 together ruined my experience. With local 5 yelling, blowing horns, and stopping you to tell you to complain every time you go to the beach or other areas stating they want help you but don’t care to yell from before 7 till 10 at night. The management didn’t respond to my complaints after I called due to making to get ice cream without be stopped by local 5, having get my own towels, clean the room, and the increase noise from local later in the week. I blame both for this experience but one can’t claim to feel for the guests but continue to yell and disrupt guests time there they paid a lot for.

5 months prior to our stay I called the front desk and asked that we have a room on one of the highest floors. We are celebrating my Wife's Birthday and our Anniversary. We were assured that would not be a problem. When we went to check in we found out we were assigned a lower level (4th floor).and couldn't even see Diamond Head. That coupled with the striking problems ruined our 2 night stay. Staff was not helpful with the exception of a Front Desk employee named Joe who tried to help out. He normally works in Grand Rapid. We probably won't be using Hilton again.

This was supposed to be one of my dream trips turned into a very bad experience because of a strike. I wish I would’ve known before picking this hotel because I would’ve picked another one. We woke up to noise every single day, we didn’t get services because of the strike limited staffing. I’m not upset about the cause. I’m just paying that much money to stay on a property. It wasn’t worth it due to the circumstances.
