Fabulous place to stay. We had our 2 and 4 year olds with us and it was great for all of us. Quiet, safe, easy parking, great and accommodating staff. Breakfast looked amazing but we had to leave too early to sit down and couldn't take it with us so no problem; just our day had an early appointment. The fiskehaus was amazing for local seafood.

Come with low expectations
A very simple hotel that I thought would be fine for a 1 night stay but the room was a sauna with no aircon and trucks constantly heading to and from the port made opening the window of no use to sleeping. A nice breakfast would have helped the lack of sleep but it was miserably poor with devastatingly bad coffee. Recommend looking elsewhere.

This is pretty much the default choice, if taking a ferry to Norway. The location cannot be beat and breakfast is incredible.

We stayed at this hotel as it has more parking available. We were travelling on the ferry to Kristinsand. The room was larger than expected and comfortable. There were no shampoo sachets only body wash in the shower. Breakfast was ok and parking was no problem as there is a large area at the back of the hotel. The town of Kristinsand was not anything special. It is only a place to stay before the ferry trip. Make sure you book your ticket for the fast ferry.

Good stay
Stopped overnight here before catching the ferry to Norway (it looked that that's what most people were doing) but actually had a really good stay. Spacious room, comfortable bed and a good night's sleep. Plus it was a very good price especially considering the excellent breakfast that was included. Staff were all friendly. We also ate in the restaurant in the evening and were very impressed by the food, so I'd recommend trying it if you're staying there. The ferry port is literally a 5 minute drive/ride from the hotel, so very convenient. Parking outside the hotel was easy and seemed safe, and I think there is an overflow car park as well. I would certainly stay here again if I'm taking the ferry in future.

The Skaga hotel is at the Harbor. Our room was spacious and clean and the staff was friendly. The hotel restaurant was excellent. It was early June so the sun woke us up early. Blackout curtains would have helped.

Convenient, but not terrific
Tenth or more stay over the years. Convenience (proximity to ferry terminal) is main reason to choose this hotel. Unfortunately, the facilities are getting old and "tired" and there was an unpleasant smell from the drains in our bathroom. The breakfast buffet is not terribly appealing. Shows signs of cost cutting.

We rolled into Hirtshals late after a long day of driving and sightseeing. Everything was wonderful! Room was spacious and clean, front desk staff were lovely, and they even had Easter eggs on the kids' pillows. So thoughtful! Breakfast was delicious! Kids swam, too, and the pool was great!
