Hotel location is ideal, a short walk into town (there is a small climb back up, but nothing too strenuous) and the beach. Breakfast is included, although it finishes at 9am so we missed it for 2 of our 4 mornings here (as a result of 2 great nights in town!) The room furnishings were standard and the room looked a little bit tired but our bed was huge and very comfortable. I do have to mention that we were woken each morning by a rooster. He goes on for a bit, but we had ear plugs so we were able to pop them in and go back to sleep. Just to note if you're a light sleeper! All in all, this is a no frills stay but served our needs.

Great place.

I stayed in the dorm... it was really clean. Comfy bed. And the breakfast was delicious. No complaints at all. I’d stay again.

Pros: The hot staff are nice and helpful. They will arrange tours, bus and motorbike rental. My room was clean and came with free coffee, tea and bath slippers. The private room had two fans and working AC Cons: unfortunately this hotel has has water damage. I booked a dorm room, soon as I walked in I knew I could not stay in there. I then changed to a private room, the room was nice but I could still smell the mold/mildew. The private room was not as bad as the dorm room. I only stayed two nights here.

Great staff, great price, BIG bed!

The hotel was located very close to all the action. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable with a massive bed. Overall a great stay. Only negative for us, it’s actually a hotel with dorm rooms. There are a lot of backpacker types. They would linger in the breakfast area taking up tables for too long after dining. New guest would come for breakfast and there would be no where to sit. Not the hotels fault that the younger guests were not considerate of other people. Just be aware of you are NOT looking for a hostel feel, be advise you’ll get one here. Again, great hotel, great staff.

Comfortable stay

We spent three nights at Cannon Fort Cat Ba and enjoyed our stay. This is a no-frills hotel, but it suited us just fine. We stayed on the 5th floor and our room had a giant bed that was effectively 2 queen sized beds pushed together. The mattress was a bit hard for my liking, but my husband loved it. The air conditioning worked well and the room was quiet so we slept well during our stay. The room was very clean with nice, basic furnishings and a lovely view of the hill behind the hotel. We were grateful for the room safe since we could leave our valuables behind during our excursions. There were plenty of outlets to charge our many devices and the outlets accept type A (American) and type C (European) plugs so we didn’t need the converters we had brought. We were provided with 2 free water bottles daily, and there was a tiny market next door that was perfect for buying more. The location was ideal for exploring Cat Ba Town and the surrounding area. All the tour companies and restaurants were all under a 5 minute walk. Other reviewers have mentioned that the shower is set up to where the entire bathroom gets wet when you shower. The hotel provides sandals for use in the bathroom so you won’t slip and we found that the wet bathroom dried rather quickly after showering – usually in a few hours. Breakfast was included. It’s made-to-order and not a buffet so leave yourself a little extra time. We found the kitchen to be quick and the omelets were delicious.

Great Place to stay on Cat Ba Island

The staff were very attentive and organised a motor bike at short notice without any fuss. Breakfast was made to order eggs, pancakes or local dishes plus fruit and coffee. When we checked out they helped us with our bus to Ninh Binh that didn’t arrive, we booked the bus in Hanoi. Wifi and hot water was fine. The only slight negative was that our window didn’t fully close.

One night stay

Very basic hotel (although this is all you would expect for a price). We had a bit of “incident” in our room (with some bugs) and asked hotel staff to clean and check the room - but not too sure if they have done it (my husband killed it and once we have returned to the room we still could see a mark on the floor). Although you can’t blame a staff for it (can happen even in the most luxurious hotels) still I would expect a bit of more reaction from hotel. Staff helped us to organise a Halong Bay day trip for $18 each and it was great! Well recommended! But as per hotel ... hmmm I wouldn’t stay there again , although it’s perhaps more based on incident we had rather than hotel standards - I suppose you get what you pay for.

I stayed in the dorm. Clean room, comfartable bed, good locker, but a little tight on floor space. Good breakfast choices, including corn flakes which I was strangely missing! Good stay for the price! Just to let you now the is no view but a 10 minute walk to the waterfront.

Good location a short walk from the sea front - rooms were good and spotless clean. Breakfast with a single main choice was good enough - choices to suit western and Asian. Hotel was in good condition - best thing was the quality of the staff. They were warm and welcoming , very professional and made us feel very valued.

Canon Fort was in a good location up a hill about 3 mins walk from the sea front. The rooms were good, functional and comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was OK for the price that we paid. Single choice but plenty of options so everyone was catered for. Staff were very good indeed - helpful and very welcoming .... they made the experience 5 star! Extremely good value for money

Friendly clean nice hotel

Nice friendly clean hotel/hostel in a good location. Staff speak good English. Good hostel for those wanting a bit more chilled/privacy which is sometimes needed, not as good for the social aspect. I stayed here and central backpackers and bar the social aspect and the lack of swimming pool, I’d say this hostel/hotel is much better. Staff more helpful, nicer rooms and beds, better breakfast.

Nice hotel in quiet location

This hotel is off the Main Street so does not have the sea views but is quieter than those on the front. It is close to the centre and piers. Cat Ba was a great choice for visiting Lan Ha and Halong Bays.

Hotel was better than expected for $13 a night. Breakfast made to order off menu was included in the price. Location shown on hotels.com map is wrong; it is located on right leg of upside down U closer to the Bay. Close to bars and restaurants. There was a safe in the room.

Great place to stay in Cat Ba

This hostel was amazing! It was so clean and the free breakfast was great. They even let us take a shower after we'd checked out, and the service was amazing!

Stille og rolig med unntak av en hane som vekket oss ved 05-tiden... 😳 Liten varmtvannstank som ble slått av mens vi var ute med resultat av at det aldri var varmt vann på ettermiddag/kveld. Ellers et fint hotell med god beliggenhet.
