The main hotel is lovely. I got places out in the carriage house, separate from the main hotel. Everyone someone ran water or flushed a toilet it sounded as if waves were crashing on my head. The people next door were definitely on drugs and up all night. I tried the front desk but no one there to answer at 3:30am - shocker. Then to top it off- 6:30 am recycling and trash trucks right outside my window. Needless to say I got zero sleep. Was hoping for something amazing. This was NOT it.

The Holbrooke is a beautiful, old property that holds a lot of history and charm. It’s within walking distance to all kinds of great shopping. It was very clean and comfortable. I had the Alaskan cod for dinner and it was the best I ever had. Hats off to the chef. If there is a down side, because of it age, it is thin walls and creaky floors. You can hear your neighbors. Luckily mine were as quiet as can be. Other than that, its charm is apparent when you drive up. A lovely stay for sure.

Great stay

Charming and historic hotel, staff was helpful, the town is full of interesting shops and friendly locals and good restaurants. The beds were cozy and the room clean. The area of course is naturally beautiful as well. We were located in the carriage house, behind the main hotel, which was like being in a little house, perfectly fine. The only downside for us was that it was somewhat loud- you could hear the water in the pipes and the people in the next room coughing and talking. There were no amenities in the room either, which was ok but normally I would like a way to boil water. (electric kettle, microwave or coffee maker) Next time I will stay in the main hotel, as I heard that was provided. But we did thoroughly enjoy our stay and would definitely stay again.

Lovely historic hotel

We loved our stay at this historic hotel downtown Grass Valley. It had charm, interior of the hotel was amazing and our room was cute and clean and just what I expected.

Awesome Place

An amazing place! Didn’t know it until we arrived, but the hotel has a very rich history dating back to a guest list that included Mark Twain and Ulysses S Grant. Very, very tasteful remodel that was extremely nice and comfortable .

Beyond Amazing

This hotel was beyond amazing. We’ve visited before for drinks but never stayed. We needed a place last minute on Christmas Day and luckily they had a room. It was so beautiful and quaint. Loved it. We will stay from now on when in town.

I have stayed here before and loved it. Unfortunately my girlfriend became ill as we checked in. It was understandably too late for me to cancel, so we checked into our room around 5 pm to take a nap to see if she would feel better. We were given a room in the carriage house. It is a very nice room, however the walls were paper thin and we could literally hear every conversation throughout the floor and from any of the hallways in the whole house. We realized there would be no way to comfortably rest and/or sleep so I went back to desk and we checked out an hour or 2 after checking in. The clerk was apologetic and said she would refund the $20 resort fee. I was bummed as I have loved staying here in the last. Definitely request a room in the main building if you are even slightly sensitive to outside noise.
