One of the worst hospitality experiences of my lif

I stayed at the Radisson in Grand Rapids and experienced something no parent ever should—my son drowned in their pool. He was revived my my wife, thankfully, but ended up in the hospital for what we were told would be several days. Our checkout was scheduled for Sunday, and starting Thursday, I called every single day to request a one-day courtesy extension so we could manage the emergency. I've worked in the hospitality industry for years. I *know* a one-night comp in a situation like this is absolutely something that can be done. But what shocked me more than the denial was the complete lack of basic human decency. Not one person I spoke to ever asked, “Is your son okay?” or even “Are you okay?”—this is the hospitality industry, yet there was zero compassion. Day 1: I was told I’d get a call back. I didn’t. Day 2: I was transferred to the voicemail of the GM, who I was told was in the building. Still no call. Day 3: Instead of concern or support, I got a cold, automated text telling me to check out. Horrible, horrible, horrible experience. The staff showed no empathy, no professionalism, and no regard for what my family was going through. I’ll never stay at a Radisson again, and I sincerely hope they take a hard look at what “hospitality” is supposed to mean.

The building is undergoing renovations so it is a mix of extremely run down and updated. The bathroom was very gross and paint was chipping off the walls everywhere. The entire hotel needs to be gutted and revamped.

The elevator only half way worked and there was stains all over the beds the blankets the showe curtain had red stains you had to move the microwave to use it because it was tucked away in a spot that wouldn’t reach an outlet and it looked very sketchy all around the hotel

Upon arrival our room didn't have toilet paper in it, but it was brought quickly after calling the front desk. Our sink was clogged & was reported to the front desk and was not fixed during the duration of our stay. It was a last minute booking and worked fine as a place to sleep during our weekend in Grand Rapids.

Everything was pretty dirty and in disrepair. The pool and restaurant were closed for cleaning or renovations or whatever and had been for awhile despite the website advertising a pool and restaurant. Tried to reserve a suite beforehand but was told rooms were decided at check in. Tried 3 new room keys up and down a barely working one elevator and finally had to just switch rooms. Needed more pillows as my wife has scoliosis and requires them to sleep well and was brought dirty couch bolster type pillows with no pillow cases. At least they tried and staff was not rude just under trained and not enough resources.

DO NOT STAY HERE

We booked two rooms, room 610 and 611. Room 610 did not have a working (flushing) toilet. The shower curtain rod was bent, so any attempt to keep the curtain closed was a failure. The towels were supposed to be white, but nearly all of them were stained with black stains. Room 611 didnt have a working shower, we made multiple attempts to pull up on the device that turns it from a bath to a shower. I think the hulk couldn't get it done if he tried. We didnt notice any of this until we got back late at night from a concert downtown. By that time it was too late to do anything about it. Tvs didnt work. The hot tub had brown "skin" all over the place. The elevators were everyone's frustration. There is (one) elevator on each end of the building. Most people dont know about the second. So you have everyone from 7 floors trying to use one elevator, that's "small" by elevator standards. I made sure to mention all of this to the girl at the front desk during checkout, I was very nice, it wasn't her fault. But, she looked like a deer in headlights and said she would get back to me, she has not. Unfortunately at this point in time, due to tbe lack of response, if have to encourage everyone reading the reviews to book elsewhere. The staff I've had to deal with have been nice, but we dont book hotels to interact with the staff, we book them to have a home away from home.
