Good Value but not such a pleasant stay
We got a really good deal on the room, but the room was in quite a bit of repair. The bed was the worst as it was lumpy and I couldn’t sleep well. The heat did not work but the space heaters did provide enough heat. The shower hard to regulate as knob kept falling off. I think I would not return.

Solbakken, A Gift From The Past
Ahh, Minnesota’s North Shore, Lake Superior! Solbakken Resort was cozy, comfortable, and quiet. Part of its charm is being rustic in structure and history! Our room was located in the Lodge with a door that opened up to a patio in full view and sound of the lakes majestic character! This resort aims to please and makes their patrons feel special! We will be returning!

The view was gorgeous. Cute little cozy atmosphere. One suggestion is on the motel doors they really slam. I was trying to read a book on Saturday and the doors just kept slamming and I couldn’t even figure out what it was for the longest time. It’s very startling. Other than that, loved it ❤️

This is a comfy cozy place to stay. Could use a little updating in the rooms, but nothing worth not checking it out for. Staff were great and you are close to grand marais. Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed in room 7. It was very nice although I think a great benefit would be to have a microwave in this room. The main heat hadn’t been turned on yet but there was a space heater that kept the room perfect! We had a really nice small deck that looked out onto Lake Superior. You could see the water from our room! Loved all the woodwork in the room. Made it very cozy! Pet friendly!!

We did the Circle tour and Solbakkens was our last night on the road. The resort is a cabin style with a lodge where you can use the spa, play pool, do a puzzle or read and relax. Bed was comfortable but a bit squeaky. Loved the lakefront view of Lake Superior in the morning! No breakfast and we went over to nearby ski resort for supper.

The property and staff were excellent, well above average. Very nice people. With regard to Expedia, I would not recommend using them. Expedia has caused us reservation issues twice this year.

Peaceful. You can sit on the back deck, and enjoy the view of Lake Superior over the top of cabins down closer to the lake. You can feel the lake breeze and hear the waves on the rocky shore, which only takes 1 or 2 minutes to walk to.

I liked pretty much everything. I was in the motel. Next fall we will prob return and we will prob rent a cabin on the water this time. Thank you. What I didnt like was leaving and vacation over.
