Great place, odd request

This was a great hotel, but oddly, they asked for a 50 Euro deposit upon check-in. This has never happened to me before. If I had decided to maybe steal the TV, what would they have done, since they gave me the deposit back before checking the room? Probably charge my credit card - so why even bother with a cash deposit? Then the next day, they only gave me 48 Euros back, because of taxes. Considering what it costs to stay at a Hilton, I thought this was ridiculous. I only gave the full 5 stars because I don't want to blame this on the staff, who were friendly and efficient.

Check-in took 30 mins because they apparently had given away my room reservation to someone else earlier that day, then took forever to resolve this issue and find me a room. Instead of offering me some upgrade / nicer room as compensation, I got a free soda. Great!
