Great hotel but badly let down by poor staffing. The hotel and room were lovely. Well maintained, good furniture, clean, quiet, and great blackout curtains. Beds were comfy. But woeful lack of staff for breakfast. Gave up after 30 mins and did without. Had to leave without even getting a coffee. Why hotels scrimp on such small sums - ruined the whole experience. It was a busy day but entirely predictable and everyone I spoke to who had the same issue has booked months ago. It’s a uni town - plenty of people want work! No excuse.

My stay at The indigo hotel in Exeter

Overall the staff were excellent! Unfortunately we had a mix up and our room which was over booked but we were put in a very nice room and complimentary breakfast was offered. The Spa was lovely too. Big downside was the parking. Very expensive in the local multi story £16.50 for 24 hours

The only downside with this property is becketts, the bar on the roof… it just feels like a missed opportunity. The staff were not too familiar with the drinks and unfortunately the cocktails tasted plastic… pre made in a bottle not freshly made to order… the view is amazing… if they can sort the drinks, offer proper cocktails and table service then it’s a gold mine!

Excellent check-in, friendly and helpful staff at reception. Well appointed rooms, spacious and interesting, quirky design features. Hot breakfast very good. Breakfast buffet and service was very poor. Breakfast served until 10 each day but by 9am not much was unavailable. It is laid out early in the morning and not replenished - one salami, one cheese and like Lidl "when it's gone, it's gone'. We, and others, were continually asking for plates, for bowls, for butter, for the milk jugs to be refilled, for jam (there was only ever one glass pot of fruitless strawberry jelly replenished from a catering tub beneath the bar -- no choice, no marmalade) and so on. Promised 'best ingredients sourced from across the British Isles'). Anchor butter and Flora margarine pats, however, do not cut it. The staff were around and about but paid no attention to buffet.

Weekend city break.

After trying to pick my hotel for a birthday city break getaway i decided on this one due to its location and facilities. Unfortunately as soon as I booked I got an email to inform me the Spa that is advertised is actually at an additional cost for a 2hr use of the facilities. On arrival we went to visit the rooftop bar which was great however when we returned for our later visit where they had decided to close early even though we had a table booking, the next day we tried to go again but told we couldn’t go as we didn’t have a booking, there were plenty on empty tables. I then booked using the app and was told I still couldn’t have a drink even though I had now actually made a reservation. The breakfast was of a good standard but we were left for nearly 30 minutes without anyone asking our order and the Continental section was also empty, it seemed the staff that did the table service also did all the room service too which were getting a priority, my second visit wasnt much better with lack of choice and even a staff member just stood watching the toaster bellow smoke out of it. The bar in reception was great but closes extremely early and again only had one staff trying to mange it all with the roof top bar taking most their stock so left unavailable drinks down stairs and we weren't allowed up stairs. On check out they had the wrong card/bill attached to my room so tried to charge me again, the lack of management skills are unfortunately showing through

I did like Becketts rooftop bar, a lovely start to the evening. Staff were polite and helpful, got offered another drink at 11pm when bar was closing. It was a lovely touch with cake and raspberries in room for a birthday. The premium room with balcony and city view had scuffs on the walls and dirt on ceiling, also the bathroom lock did not work. But the worst was the balcony the floor had not been washed it had what looked like coffee/ tea stains and the table also not washed as had rings on table from cups/glasses. The breakfast was not at all good the bacon, sausage and egg had been under a heater lamp so was so bacon and egg was so hard. No one told us about the continental or offered coffee tea which you would expect for the price, so had to find out for ourselves. I would not pay £20.00 for a breakfast.
