RIU Guanacaste was absolutely amazing for our stay! The entire staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and restocked daily upon request. The food options we delicious. We were blown away by the buffet options. The sushi at Furama was our favorite. The only thing I didn’t like were all of the vendors trying to sell you things on the beach. They were very disruptive and made it hard to relax.

Good place to stay , just need to upgrade there rooms a bit more and change type of food they have everyday. Besides that everything went well my family had a good time. And they have a lot Great shows for family and kids at night and activities during the day.

I stayed for 5 days & 4 nights and the air condition didn’t work until the last day. I booked with a group of 16 people, and because their staff made a mistake in their own system they locked out my mother and my three year-old niece and told Expedia that they weren’t gonna let them in until they get more money. Absolutely atrocious ! I can promise that I will never stay here again.

Family friendly and everything we needed

Took our 18 month old and it was very family friendly. Food was decent at the usual buffets, was better at the specialty restaurants. Lots of activities for a wide range of interests: live music, kids games, water park, water sports, sports on the beach, games by the pool, beginner scuba lessons, etc. Having zip lining and animal park within 10 minutes away was nice too. There are a few stores on the premises, just very expensive but nice if you really need something. We enjoyed our trip and would come here again!

The overall property was amazing! The rooms were dated but we rarely spent any time in them! Loved the food but the biggest downfall was no dinner reservations and you had to be dressed and ready for dinner by 6:00pm to get a spot.

The property is really nice. The rooms on main side are very old and need updating. The first room we were in the ac and phone did not work but when we informed them they moved ud to one of the newer rooms. We also had to stay and extra day because out flight was cancelled. They quickly helped us extend our stay. The only complained we had is the food. It was not very good. That is the only reason I did not give them 5 stars but the customer service and other amenities were great.

I typically do not write negative reviews, however I have to expose this resort for fraud. I booked my stay at this resort from December 29th - January 02 using a travel agency. However, I unable to make it, because of severe thunderstorm/tornado taking place in Costa Rica for almost two weeks. I cancelled immediately upon discovering this. After, several back and forth, my refund request was denied for whatever reason. This resort stole over $1300 from me.

Nice older property and rooms. Staff is wonderful and the pools and breach area are good. My kids aged 15-19 had a great time. What I didn’t enjoy was that you must wait in line for the restaurant of your choice each night for 30-45 minutes to get seat right at 6 pm or you get a buzzer that will go off later which you will have 10 minutes to get your family or group down there. There is nothing else anywhere near this hotel so think you will have outside options.

Looks nice, but don’t expect much

The hotel looks very nice. Pools are nice. Beach is nice. Food was ok. This is an all inclusive and was suppose to refill the mini bar (they never did in 4 day stay). The maids never switched towels, but did take the 2 washclothes we had for 4 people and made the beds. You can hear everything in other rooms. If you get the 2 BR and they ask if you want king or 2 queens then know that 1 is a king and can’t be changed. The specialty restaurants were horrible service and even worse food. You line up 1/2hr-1 hr early to hopefully get a table at 6pm. And then you are completely disappointed. The steak house was the only one worth it. The service at pools, bars, housekeeping was terrible. This is a huge place so if you have trouble walking or stairs, don’t go here. The shows were very disappointing too. The white party was terrible. Most are just for kids and even things like bingo may be on the schedule and they just don’t show up.

The shows they throw at night every night are amazing! They also do events throughout the days such as pool or foam party! They do events for kids as well which is awesome! It is super safe as well, great vacation!

11 of us travelled together and had 5 rooms, all together. One person wasn’t able to go because they didn’t receive their passport in time due to the postal strike in Canada. The hotel didn’t accommodate the cancellation for one person and issue a refund even though we kept the same amount of rooms, just one less person. We have stayed at many Riu’s before and this one was the worst of all. The rooms are dated - had hard time getting into the rooms, locks wouldn’t work, rooms had a strong musty smell and in 3 of our rooms toilets didn’t flush. The front desk representative was lazy and literally lied to us about the availability of the rooms, while we were willing to pay the extra fees to upgrade our rooms, promised us better rooms the next day but reserved same rooms for us but on a higher floor with no improvements or even better views. After talking to another associate we were able to move to the new wing on our second day which made our stay so much better. Food was good. No mimosas at this property.
