The Riu Guanacaste hotel is the most disgusting Riu hotel I have ever stayed in. Where do I even start!? There was roaches in my room! We killed the roaches and the cleaning people never bothered to remove them from the room. There were dead roaches just laying there in the bathroom for 5 days! Next- the bed had bugs too!! I could not tell if they were bedbugs or baby roaches. Thats the worst part of it all. Next! The restaurants are first come first serve. We never got to experience any a la carte restaurants. The wifi was horrible!! It barely worked. The staff was rude! When we were checking out there was another lady complaining that her room was full of bugs.bugs. She had taken a picture and showed staff and they didnt even care. The beach!! Oh dont even get me started lol. The beach was horrible!! Dirty as hell. This was the worst experience ever. Please do not book this hotel its trash! No wonder it was so cheap to go there . If anybody wants to see videos of the roaches look at my tiktok video where I talk about this horrible experience - @shrexytron Disgusting!!!

First time leaving a review but just had to for this property. If you truly want to get a good Costa Rica experience dont come here! Dinner and breakfast was ok, but the selection at lunchtime was terrible. The bed was super hard I could barely sleep at night. The floor in our bedroom was sticky (gross) so thank God I brought slippers. Its scary to walk at night, there’s racoons everywhere (in the restaurant, lobby and hallways leading to the room) so scary! The bathrooms are super uncomfortable, the bathtubs are very high with a piece of concrete on the borders making it very hard to get in and out. They had metal handles inside the bathtub (I guess they know its tough) but even with the handles my pregnant self had a hard time to the point im leaving with a nig old bruise on my calf. The cleanliness is a problem - the sheets looked nasty, the bathtub didnt not look clean and the shower curtain was very gross. The cleaning crew even forgot a really nasty sponge they used to clean on the sink counter right next to my toothbrush which totally grossed me out lol The positives were definitely the placement of the hotel, the pool was nice and big and the staff attitude was great. Ive been to very nice resorts but with staff that were overworked and over it which can ruin the experience. At least here the staff seems genuinely happy and glad to help which is great. Bottom line: i get that the hotel is working on renovations, BUT a place can be outdated AND clean

I'll start with a good- the grounds are beautiful and really meticulously maintained-- staff is constantly out there working on landscape and the facility itself is beautiful. The beach was well maintained and was also gorgeous and an added bonus here. The rooms could use some updates, Cockroaches were crawling out of the bathroom drains overnight. We found out 2 days later that there was a completely new side that opened the week before we were there. If it we had known that I would have requested that side, or if it weren't for the inconvenience of moving. The drink selection was terrible. There was only 1 beer option, one each red and white wine. Liquor was below bottom shelf and some was nearly undrinkable. Drinks were inconsistent-- I ordered a margarita 5 different times and got 4 different drinks, one of which I couldn't even drink. The food was AWFUL. Even breakfast was below par-- how hard is it to make an omelet at the omelet station? Zero flavor, overcooked, definitely far from "resort quality". That said, again on the brand new side-- food was edible at the mexican place and the 2 pool side food stands. The entertainment was lacking- musician plays for 1 hr only and then there is kid programing on the main stage. The main shows were good but the poor dancers shoes were falling apart and their costumes mended together. I felt bad for them and their lack of proper outfitting. A budget resort- but I cannot say I would try a RIU again anywhere.

Our bed was bug/insect infected and my wife and I have bug bites all over. Still recovering from it. Bed was very hard. Elevator did not work on our side of the building so it was a very long walk to go to the other side. We were on the 5th floor so it was so difficult. So called restaurants were not open on most days. So buffets were the only option. People were polite. Toiletries were not provided it gets 3 stars. Location is excellent. Safe.

I was very disappointed with the rrsort itself! Me and my boyfriend went for our first time, the beach was dirty and not clean, the staff were greeting and offering drinks to american people and not hispanic whoa lso comes international from another country. The anination was not the best! The muaic they had was repetetive and very very low rhey didnt had someone to control the music! The night club is not part of the "resort" which neans tgatvyou would have to pay for the drinks when you go! I never had an experience of going to a tesort that is all inclusive and had to paid for drinks at their nightclub inside the resort! The shows eoukd be done at 10:30 to 10:45 p.m. and they would turn off the lights as if they were kicking is out! They had a sport bar that only had a tennis table and one pool table but the ambiance was not the greatest!

Property was ok, dated but ok. Staff and service was very good. They were helpful when my kid had accident in the night. Dinning options were there but the food was very bad in all of them. My kid survived on ice-cream and french fries the entire 4 days stay as some food he eat there didn't sit well and it was the case with few more kids in our group.

This hotel needs a major renovation. There’s mold everywhere in the spa, workout room and some areas around the property. The food and beverage stuff are super nice. Bellman stuff need to be more helpful and help the customers with their luggage’s instead of standing around.
