The Murrayfield Hotel is the gem of Edinburgh. I had the pleasure of staying 4 nights. It’s a quick bus ride to Edinburgh Castle. In a great old neighbourhood of Edinburgh with excellent local shops, a few restaurants and cafes nearby.
The room. My room had very high ceilings with the original plaster work. The hotel is a collection of beautiful heritage stone mansions. The room had been recently renovated with very nice furniture, TV and a comfortable big bed. The bathroom again recently renovated, excellent shower with real water pressure!
The food. The Hotel has a restaurant and bar attached called the Bothy. I had with the insistence of a member of staff the Scottish breakfast, lovely. I also had one night the Bothy burger. The restaurant and bar have a great atmosphere, great fire place too.
The staff. As well a giving great food recommendations and good conversation, they were especially excellent during a storm! Due to the great storm many guests were left stranded with cancelled flights, roads closed and a red warning Scotland wide, 114 mph winds! Although clearly stressful and a bit of a handful organising rooms and new/ canceled booking for reception it was all handled very well. The night before the storm I was setup and booked in for an additional night (extra charge, but very reasonable) with no issues. I didn’t need to move rooms. During the storm they were excellent too, putting the safety and comfort of guests as the first priority. 10/10.
Stayed over for a couole of nights and we were given an upgrade to the Murrayfield House. Room was very spacious and the cleaniness of the room was excellent.
Staff were very warm and welcoming. We had breakfast in The Bothy restaurant which only complaint would be the hot food was very dry. We had expected food to be cooked on order but it was as if the food had been cooked very early morning and reheated when ordered. The choice of food was fantastic but I would recommend that food be cooked when ordered by guests.
Cute, small hotel with lots of hospitality. Very homey. The breakfast was excellent. It was out of the way but an easy bus trip and very worth the extra time.
Fantastic location with public transport links in to the city within walking distance, Staff very friendly and helpful. Only downside was the bed that was very uncomfortable to the point it made sleeping difficult.
Absolutely beautiful setting. Highly recommend this hotel. The staff were very friendly and assisted us where necessary. The stadium is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The restaurants are lovely and serve a wide variety of food. The breakfast are very nice.
We were very disappointed with parking. We stayed during a rugby match day, and the hotel had no parking available. We had to park half a mile away.
We’ve stayed near Murrayfield during game days a few times and have never had a problem with parking.
Hotel staff were ok. When we arrived we were just told to go wait at the back of the queue? People were waiting to get in to the restaurant area, which was just chaos.
Super friendly staff, gave us an upgrade without us knowing-super nice surprise! Beautiful place, beautiful rooms, with wonderful amenities, not far from the city center on a quick bus ride & breakfast was delicious!
The hotel was fantastic. But we booked this hotel to attend an event a Murrayfield as it came with parking. We arrived for check in to find the parking was closed off to make room for a gazebo for accommodating more people having drinks. People that were not booked to stay at the hotel. We then had to find a parking space which was a 10 min walk away from the hotel due to the fact streets were cordoned off and very busy with the event at Murrayfield. Very disappointed considering this was a big factor in booking the hotel.
