We have stayed here three times now and will certainly be back. It is ideal for travelling with our dog; the staff fuss him, he gets to be with us in the dog-friendly mini dining-room and got his own sausage at breakfast. We found the evening dining room in the basement a bit tricky with a spiral staircase so the staff set a table for us on the ground floor. Huge comfy bed and plenty space in the rooms.
It's a beautiful property in the country with public bus access if you are willing to walk a mile to the bus stop. I considered it good exercise and a beautiful walk if its not raining.
We had some issue with our room keys and had to have them reactivated every night when we returned from our excursions.
The breakfast is very good but I'm not a big breakfast eater. I thought it was included in our stay but its not. I wish I'd skipped it all together when i checked out and realized it was 15 pounds for a cup of tea and a fruit salad i had been opting for. If I'd have been ordering from their breakfast menu I'd have been ok with the charges.
I booked a single room for one night, the room was lovely with a four poster bed, amazing shower, very modern large smart TV and the fastest WiFi I’ve ever had in any hotel. I tested the speed and got 500 mbps !
When I stay in hotels I generally accept I won’t sleep as long as at home but this was the exception and I had a wonderful sleep in this bed.
Beautiful property, spacious room, and excellent dining experience. We weren’t sure what to do about dinner since the castle is just outside of the city, but upon arrival, the staff asked us what time we would like to have booked for our dinner. The food was very good and we enjoyed our meal.
We will have to stay here again when we visit next time. 5 stars.
This is an exceptional property! Our rooms were incredibly beautiful with outstanding amenities. The front desk staff were welcoming and kind, and Jill took great care of us at breakfast, showing us around the bar and wine cellar and giving us some history. This stay was our little treat on vacation- and I highly recommend it!!!
Last minute booking. Friendly reception staff sorted out the paperwork quickly on my arrival. I was amazed at the stunning big bedroom which was in a nice quiet part of the hotel.
Melville Castle was one of my all time favorite stays in Scotland. Well worth staying here and driving into Edinburgh as you'll get all the peace, comfort and beauty of the countryside, inside an immaculate castle.
Walking the grounds, it was surrounding by stunning tree carvings of figures around the castle that were enthralling to go investigate, as well as the most magical trees in the forest, huge ones I might add!
The bed was the most comfortable of any of the sleeps in Scotland and the staff were super kind and helpful. I was really blown away by this place and would recommend highly for visiting Edinburgh.
We loved our visit to Melville Castle. It was everything we had hoped for... from the lush grounds, historic architecture, beautiful antique furnishings and modern conveniences. This hotel gets everything right. I would highly recommend to friends and would definitely visit again!
Melville Castle provided us with an
unforgettable stay! Surrounded by a large
wooded area, it offers lovely trails for
walks. Beautiful and the castle itself feels true to its theme.
The food was delicious as well.
A beautiful Castle in magnificent surroundings. Every room is filled with fascinating objects, the bedrooms are beautifully decorated. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious, as was breakfast, all the staff we encountered were exceptionally welcoming and nothing was any bother. There was a wedding happening during our stay and the hotel staff managed everything with calm, friendly ease. The only downside was the room had no windows that could open, and after a hot sunny day it was very warm. Reception did give us a fan, which really only circulated the warm air. An unusual occuance in Scotland! Highly recommend and will definitely stay again.
