I've stayed at this hotel a few times as we go to/from BC every summer to visit family. But when we arrived the power was out, no fault of the hotel, but a planned BC Hydro power outage. We can't blame the hotel for this; HOWEVER we checked in at 8PM. It was already dark. They knew about the power outage coming at about 4:30pm and never gave us a heads up, if we had known we would have cancelled and stayed in Kamloops.
We knew we'd be checking in late, nothing around the hotel would be open so we brought food to warm up, and also had planned to do a few hours of work before bed; but we couldn't use the kitchenette, and there was no wifi. They also didn't offer flashlights so no light in your room. Yes, you could use your phone, but also there was no way to charge your phone, so this was an issue for the two of us with bad batteries. Then of course the breakfast wasn't complete in the morning as unfortunately the power outage lasted longer than BC Hydro stated. There was no power for our entire stay.
So we paid nearly $200 for a pitch black room. No discount was offered, and when I asked at checkout, they said it wasn't their fault. But we paid for services we did not receive, some discount should be a given. They could have notified us before checkin and we would have found a different place to stay. Instead we already arrived late and were stuck, with no food, and no ability to work or watch anything and hardly an apology was given. Now we likely won't stay there again
