The hotel lobby was beautiful, the staff were impeccable. We asked for an upgrade (with intention of paying), but where told our suite was the best the hotel had. Sadly it didnt match the rest of the hotel or the staff. The bed was saggy and uncomfortable it also had a pubic hair on the sheet, the shower had low pressure and tempermental temperature, the room decor was tired and in need of a refresh as where the corridors, the room was boiling and had no functioning aircon, but a cheap electric portable fan. We overlooked some nasty pipes in a yard, and the windows didnt open properly and any plug sockets where the other side of the room. A deluxe suite really wasn't what we had for the night. Breakfast was honestly awful. Anything other than a bog standard filter coffee (cappucino) was £2.00 extra, the bacon was dry and tastless, but also somehow undercooked, the sausages anemic and the mushrooms (my favorite food) where literally inedible. The bananas looked like they had been there for a month. The pictures gave an impression of grandeur, as does the foyer area of the hotel, but for the price it was very dissappointing indeed. I feel bad that the staff where so lovely, as the hotel does them no justice. Even the housekeeper made a lovely effort to chat to us about our stay and was wonderfully friendly.

No air con and windows don’t open so it’s very clammy and hot in rooms, although they do offer a small fan it’s not enough. Lots of cobwebs on ceiling, lights. Could do with a update on painting ect

A lovely stay with very minor quibbles
Lovely staff, comfortable room, and a good breakfast in the heart of Cardiff. Only downside was only one working lift, which was quite slow, they lost our afternoon tea booking (although we were still able to have some) and there's the typical need to repaint or general maintenance you find in older hotels, but you'll only notice if you are really looking for it and so minor it doesn't take away from the charm of the place A lovely stay

Very disappointed with this hotel overall. We had been in our room less than 5 minutes before getting on the phone to reception to say about how dirty the room was. Then went to our second room to then not even be in there 30 seconds to find that that also hadn't been cleaned but thankfully our 3rd room was much better hotel needs a good clean and a make over to say the least... staf where good check in was easy.. beds was comfy but the hotel is way to warm not even the fan helped we also had food there it was very nice but we did find a bit of plastic on our garlic bread.

The Angel hotel is a beautiful old building but has been kept in excellent repair. The reception staff were so lovely and helpful. I couldn’t have asked for a better service. In fact all the staff I came in contact with were just the nicest people. I didn’t eat there but on previous experience I know the food is top notch. The only minor issue is that it can be a tiny bit noisy as it’s situated near pubs but it isn’t intrusive and I still managed to sleep well. All in all a very enjoyable stay and I recommend The Angel to anyone.

Lovely overnight stay
Had a lovely overnight stay at the Angel Hotel. Check in was easy - staff are lovely & friendly (Joey even remembered we'd stayed before!). We got upgraded to a suite room which overlooked the castle - room spacious and clean but bed not so comfortable. would love to see king size beds at the hotel. it was nice to have a fan in the room. Lovely breakfast as always.
