Be advised of service charges throughout the hotel

The staff were friendly. The food was expensive and they advise you that they apply a "service charge" to everything. Ordered a chicken sandwich from the Bar which should of cost £8, actually cost us £11. Not advised at any point of our stay. And it wasn't the 1st time when what we ordered didn't warrant a "service charge".

Lovely one night stay. Room was excellent. Enjoyed the piano man entertainment immensely in the Merlin bar. Nice relaxed space. Staff were friendly and helpful. Needed more bar staff however, to prevent queues. Would get your dining reservations in early if planning to have evening meal, but casual dining in Merlin bar was good.

Impressive building but very dated and worn

Waited a long time to check in as not enough staff available. Room was big and clean. It’s an impressive hotel but looking dated in many areas. The pool area in particular was very dated and not in good shape at all. The sauna was cold as they’d only just turned it on first thing in the morning which wasn’t good. Hot tubs were not hot. Really dated pool facilities. There are vans that drive you anywhere in the resort all day and night but these appear to be diesel vans. They really need to change these to electric to reduce their carbon footprint. £7.50 a pint of Amstel. Beer selection was poor. Food was great and lots of choice. Was worth the stay for the £120 I paid but wouldn’t want to pay anymore than that.

This is a destination property. Golf and conference appear to be it's big hitters. Convenient for access and travel throughout as it is situated at a major access hub for 2 motorways and several A roads. The spa is good, but remains chaotic in the reception area. Cleanliness overall is good and the rooms seem to have had a recent upholstery update. Having said that, rooms do still need a detail clean. The sink in my bathroom was badly cracked. The crack was stained black indicating that the sink had not been hygienically cleaned in quite some time. Hair, dirty hand prints, splashes over the back of the bathroom door. Hand prints on doors and door frames throughout. Mold in the corners of the shower stall. The resort and it's infrastructure has clearly been well planned and executed. First Class. Where it falls down is on a lack of attention to detail, consistency and often a 'can't do' attitude from staff. IMHO these are factors that stop the CM from being truly great. All easy fixes with enhanced training. Why not be excellent rather than good, especially when all the building blocks are already in place ?

Property was quite upmarket, but guests were not made to feel uneasy about this.My only quibble would be why they took a pending payment from my card on arrival, but then on checkout took the payment to settle our bill but the first payment was still pending on our bank account two days later. Who was holding that money in meantime.
